This call center supports 10 different practices, may be asked to assist on site at other locations in Orlando, Winter Park and Winter Garden

The role you’ll contribute:

The Registered Nurse - Phone Triage & Education, reporting to the Physician, Mid-Level and/or Office Manager and while working within an ambulatory outpatient office setting, provides triage (sorting/prioritizing patients) telephone service to ensure prompt identification of patients with high-risk conditions. May refer patients, schedule appointments or provide appropriate education/advice to callers. Additionally, may provide nursing care for patients at the practice.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

Provides nursing triage services and health advice for patients and managed care members over the phone. Performs short evaluation of the patient situation to estimate severity of illness and/or injury including learning about chief complaint and, as possible, obtaining vital sign and mental status information.

Documents patients' questions or concerns. Tracks questions/concerns/calls in appropriate database.

Determines urgency of seeing the patient based on brief assessment and on familiarity with a patient’s condition and history. Confers with physician as needed. May give physician referrals as needed.

Sends those with high-risk chief complaints such as chest pain, abdominal pain, or severe headaches to ER immediately or arranges for ambulance.

Sets up appointment for patients who do not need to go to ER but need to see a physician or arranges for an appointment scheduler to make the appointment.

Acts, when designated, in “Ask a Nurse” capacity, handling routine information and education requests from patients. May provide appropriate home health advice to those patients who do not need to go directly to the ER.
