A respected Seattle-based company is seeking a hands-on, strategic Construction Controller to lead all aspects of financial operations for their fast-paced, family-run construction business. In this role, you'll oversee project accounting, budgeting, job costing, financial reporting, and support company leadership with forecasting, WIP reporting, and cash flow management. This position is ideal for a well-rounded, highly collaborative individual who's as comfortable diving into AP/AR tasks as they are partnering with executives on high-level financial strategy. They are looking for someone who is resourceful, approachable, and detail-oriented-with a strong construction accounting background and the ability to improve processes and support a close-knit, multi-generational team.
Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000 / year DOE
Construction Controller Responsibilities:
Oversee full-cycle accounting operations including AP, AR, billing, and collections
Manage job costing, WIP schedules, and monthly reporting for multiple multi-million dollar projects
Prepare and analyze internal financial statements, revenue forecasts, and budget vs. actuals
Lead cash flow projections and provide timely, strategic financial insights to leadership
Ensure GAAP compliance and support coordination with external CPAs for audits and tax filings
Perform bank and credit card reconciliations across accounts
Maintain accurate financial records and streamline internal processes and reporting
Monitor contractor licensing and compliance filings for multiple states
Support and mentor junior accounting staff while leading by example
Provide documentation for insurance audits and support project wrap-up requirements Construction Controller Requirements:
5+ years experience in an accounting manager or controller role, including construction sector experience
Strong knowledge of GAAP, construction job costing, WIP reporting, and multi-state tax filings
Proven experience supporting project managers and executives with financial planning and insights
Advanced Excel proficiency
Hands-on experience in AP, AR, billing, and draws
Experience with Spectrum/Viewpoint ERP systems preferred
Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred
Previous experience with general contractors is a plus
