Positional Overview
Imagine Staffing is recruiting for an Electrical Controls Design Engineer on behalf of our client, a custom equipment manufacturer based in North Tonawanda, NY. This is a direct hire opportunity offering a competitive salary, full benefits, and the opportunity to be involved in the full lifecycle of custom automation design projects.
In this role, the selected candidate will design and develop complete automation control packages including panel schematics, layout drawings, PLC programming, and system troubleshooting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a combination of engineering design, hands-on technical work, and occasional field service.
Role & Responsibility
Tasks That Will Lead To Your Success
Design and specify control panels, PLCs, and HMIs for automation systems.
Create panel layout drawings, electrical schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs) for MRP systems.
Develop P&IDs, control philosophies, and instrument/valve lists.
Perform point-to-point checkout and final acceptance testing of control systems.
Select appropriate cabling, conduit, and cable trays for system designs.
Assist manufacturing teams by resolving design conflicts during production.
Interface directly with customers to resolve discrepancies in specifications or design.
Provide field troubleshooting support and conduct field service visits as required.
Monitor project schedules and costs to ensure delivery within scope.
Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations on all projects.
Skills & Experience
Qualifications That Will Help You Thrive
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or an Associate’s degree with equivalent hands-on experience.
Minimum of 5 years of design experience in electrical controls.
Proficiency with Inventor and AutoCAD Electrical is required.
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70 (Section 501).
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
PLC programming experience using Allen Bradley products including Micrologix, CompactLogix, ControlLogix, and SLC500.
Experience with PanelView Component and PanelView Plus.
Ability to program and communicate with control systems using DeviceNet, Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet.
Experience creating and interpreting ladder logic diagrams.
Solid understanding of 3-phase motor control and VFDs.
Knowledge of instrumentation and process control systems with field troubleshooting experience.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Willingness and ability to travel for field service trips when required.
