Technical Writer

Location: Oak Ridge, TN- Hybrid/ remote position

Duration: 12 months

Pay range: $50.00- $90.00 per hour/ W2- Please note this contract does not include benefits.

Work Schedule

This position follows a 4/10 schedule, with a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Start times are flexible within this framework.

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Startup Technical Writer is to support the Startup team in the preparation and management of Test Packages. This includes technical editing, graphics integration, document control, and records management.

Key duties include:

Understanding the technical processes and objectives behind test documentation.

Collaborating closely with Testing Engineers to ensure editorial changes do not alter the intent of the test procedures.

Providing accurate and timely input to the Lead Technical Writer to support smooth execution of testing activities.

Major Responsibilities

Take direction from the Lead Technical Writer for assigned tasks.

Understand technical aspects of test documentation and procedures.

Ensure quality and accuracy in functional test instructions.

Coordinate with Test Engineers to preserve the original intent of test procedures.

Develop and maintain documents in alignment with project document control requirements.

Perform additional duties as assigned in support of broader project activities.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 3+ years of relevant experience; in lieu of a degree, 7+ years of related experience in startup activities for nuclear power facilities, Department of Energy (DOE) construction projects, or similar.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check (includes employment and education verification).

Must be able to obtain a site security badge for access to the worksite.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Understanding of startup testing and commissioning principles.

Familiarity with construction and engineering practices, and associated cost considerations.

Knowledge of applicable industry and regulatory standards.

Strong computer proficiency.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing and presenting test procedures.
