Our work involves developing or modernizing complex test systems, from providing racks, cables, fixtures, and instrumentation to integrating these components to work as a system, often using our proprietary automation test software. Position Summary
We seek an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver complex engineering consulting projects on time and within budget. This individual will oversee project execution from kickoff through customer acceptance, ensuring our teams meet technical and commercial success criteria. The ideal candidate brings a track record of success in managing technical projects, ideally in the test & measurement industry, and deep expertise with Jira and project management best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
Break down project timelines into achievable work packages and ensure alignment across engineering deliverables and customer deadlines.
Own the Jira project to manage work breakdown including priority, dependency, and scheduling.
Manage projects using a waterfall model, while still holding sprints during the engineering development phase.
Prepare for and lead key customer and internal project meetings (design reviews, demos, milestone completion, final acceptance, and others).
Assign project work based on resource availability and skillsets, balancing multiple concurrent projects.
Track project performance using Earned Value Management (EVM), proactively escalate risks, and recommend mitigations.
Communicates with internal Engineers, external contractors, and customers for project engagements.
Makes upper management aware of project risks and potential mitigation plans.
Work with the Tech Leads of projects when engineering guidance is needed for planning.
Assist with new project estimations, capacity planning, and resource management, to ensure projects are forecasted correctly.
Team Leadership & Internal Collaboration
Run internal sprint meetings as needed.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, and Finance to align technical scope, resource planning, and contract terms.
Monitors projects budgets, burn rates, engineering utilization, and schedules and communicates those through various reports to upper management.
Mentor junior PMs and teach the team how to improve project execution and operational maturity.
Customer Interaction
Interface frequently with customers throughout the project lifecycle
Navigate and lead difficult conversations around delays, scope changes, and engineering change orders
Drive projects to completion, managing expectations and ensuring timely acceptance
Qualifications
Required
8+ years of project management experience in engineering consulting or a technical services firm
Strong familiarity with test and measurement systems or adjacent industries (e.g., aerospace, defense, med tech, EVs)
Deep experience using Jira and Confluence for project planning and execution
Experience with leveraging Jira plug-ins for capacity planning and tracking billable utilization
Basic understanding of data queries for cross functional reporting
Experience with Quickbooks and Timesheets for financial reporting
Engineering background (Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering degree)
Experience working with cross-disciplinary technical teams
Strong understanding of EVM and other project reporting principles
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
Proven track record of leading 5+ complex projects simultaneously through different project stages
Proven ability to push complex technical projects through delivery and client sign-off
Preferred
PMP or equivalent project management certification
Experience with Waterfall and Agile methodologies in engineering environments
Exposure to hardware/software integrated systems and formal review processes (PDR, CDR, TRR, ATP)
Success in this Role Looks Like
In your first six months, you will have driven at least two complex test system projects from planning through customer acceptance, improving the team’s forecasting discipline, reducing surprises during demos and reviews, and ensuring the burn rate aligns with earned value.
