Reliance One, Inc. is seeking a skilled Automation Project Engineer to lead key plant-wide automation initiatives. This hands-on role focuses on the implementation, upgrade, and integration of control systems across multiple manufacturing sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the planning, budgeting, and execution of automation and controls projects across multiple facilities
Implement and upgrade PLC/HMI systems, SCADA platforms, and plant control networks, primarily using Allen Bradley (Logix 5000, CompactLogix, ControlLogix)
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and OEMs to develop automated solutions for batching, separation, pasteurization, packaging, and CIP systems
Support system commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous optimization of automated processes
Ensure all automation systems meet FDA, PMO, OSHA, MIOSHA/IOSHA, and Sanitary Design requirements
Manage project documentation, system drawings, and compliance records
Train plant teams on newly implemented or modified systems
Proactively identify and resolve automation risks or inefficiencies
Evaluate existing control systems and recommend upgrades to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability
Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for automation systems
Coordinate vendor relationships for equipment procurement, integration, and support
Work closely with engineering and production teams to align project timelines with operational goals
Monitor KPIs related to automation projects and report outcomes to leadership
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field (equivalent experience considered)
Hands-on experience programming or troubleshooting PLCs and HMIs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens)
Experience managing automation or controls projects from concept through completion
Comfortable leading automation upgrades or installations in active manufacturing environments
Experience with industrial automation or SCADA software systems
Willingness and ability to travel between client plant locations in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin for project implementation
