Open Source Database Engineer

Opportunity available to join a growing technology team as an Open Source Database Engineer responsible for leading the deployment, administration, and optimization of PostgreSQL and other open-source database platforms. This position supports both cloud and on-prem environments and is open to a hybrid schedule for candidates based in the Pittsburgh area.

Essential Duties

Lead deployment and administration of open-source databases, primarily PostgreSQL

Manage and optimize databases in cloud environments including AWS, OCI, or Azure

Tune performance and improve query efficiency through index strategies and SQL optimization

Provide on-call support for high-availability, mission-critical systems

Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure database reliability and performance

Implement monitoring tools and strategies to proactively identify and resolve issues

Requirements

7+ years of experience with PostgreSQL

At least 3 years of experience with AWS, MySQL, MariaDB, or MongoDB

Strong background in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and index design

Hands-on experience managing PostgreSQL in both on-premises and cloud environments (AWS, OCI, or Azure)

Experience supporting cloud-based database infrastructures

Willingness to provide on-call support as part of a rotating schedule
