Job Summary:
DME, a fast-growing engineering and construction management company, is seeking a certified Senior Cost Estimator with 15+ years of experience to support complex infrastructure, industrial, and commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in design-phase estimating, reviewing change orders, value engineering, and construction management, ensuring accurate cost estimates.
This role requires expertise in collaborating with engineers, architects, and project managers to develop reliable cost models/estimates, mitigate financial risks, and support client decision-making. The Senior Cost Estimator will be a key player in supporting our clients’ bid strategy, procurement, and change order analysis, while mentoring junior staff and improving estimating processes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead conceptual and detailed cost estimates for engineering and construction management projects, from feasibility studies through final bid proposals.
Analyze design documents, specifications, and construction plans to develop accurate material, labor, and equipment cost breakdowns.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to align estimates with project scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
Conduct value engineering studies to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or performance.
Review and validate contractors’ bids for competitiveness and completeness.
Prepare risk assessments and contingency analyses** to support financial decision-making.
Utilize any of the industry-standard estimating software (e.g., ProEst, CostX, RSMeans, Bluebeam) and maintain historical cost databases.
Support procurement and contract negotiations.
Participate in client meetings and presentations, justifying estimates and providing expert recommendations.
Mentor and train junior estimators, ensuring consistency and accuracy in estimating practices.
Stay updated on market trends, material pricing, and labor rates to ensure realistic and competitive estimates.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master is preferred).
15+ years of cost estimating experience in engineering, construction management, or EPC firm.
Professional Certification Required (e.g., CCE (Certified Cost Estimator), CEP (Certified Estimating Professional), CPE (Certified Professional Estimator), or equivalent).
Strong expertise in infrastructure, industrial, or commercial construction, with knowledge of MEP, structural, and civil systems.
Proficiency in at least one of the estimating software (ProEst, CostX, RSMeans, Sage, or similar.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, cost databases).
Experience with design-build, CMAR (Construction Management at Risk), and GMP contracts.
Basic Familiarity with scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project) and risk analysis tools.
Excellent communication, leadership, and negotiation skills for client and stakeholder interactions.
Preferred Skills
Experience in public sector projects (DOT, federal, municipal) or large private developments.
Knowledge of international construction cost standards (e.g., ICEC, AACEI).
Background in parametric estimating and lifecycle cost analysis.
