Position: Lead Controller

Location: Calabasas, CA; Full- remote options available with >10% travel expected to Calabasas, CA

Classification: Exempt, Full-Time

Abbyson Home a leading furniture designer, manufacturer, and distributor, and is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee our Accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in consumer goods accounting, cost accounting, wholesale and retail sales, and month-end close processes. Proficiency in Great Plains, extensive inventory management experience, and exceptional leadership skills are essential. This role demands a high level of accounting expertise and a deep understanding of the consumer goods sector. This role is strategic and hands-on, partnering directly with the executive team to make informed financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead month-end, quarter-end, and yea-end close processes, including preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements to senior management

Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP.

Assist in the preparation of the company’s budget and financial forecasts. Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.

Manage internal controls, risk assessments, and audits (both internal and external)

Oversee inventory accounting and control, ensuring accurate tracking and valuation of inventory; develop and maintain cost accounting systems for accurate product costing/inventory valuation

Manage financial transactions related to retail sales, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and accurate revenue recognition.

Oversee asset-based lending activities, maintaining strong relationships with lenders, ensuring compliance with lending agreements, and optimizing asset utilization.

Manage accruals for chargebacks, ensuring accurate and timely recording of chargeback expenses.

Utilize Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP) to manage and streamline accounting processes. Ensure the integrity of financial data within the system.

Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial statement accuracy.

Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion.

Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the department.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA certification is preferred.

Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a Controller role.

Extensive knowledge of consumer goods accounting and cost accounting.

Experience with retail sales accounting.

Proficient in accrual accounting, particularly for chargebacks.

Strong experience in inventory management and accounting.

Proficiency in Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP) and MS Office Suite.

Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop a team.

Excellent reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
