Title: Sr. Manager/Director, Mechanical Engineering

Reports to: Sr. Director & Head of Engineering

Supervises: Mechanical Engineering Staff and Contract Mechanical Engineering Staff

Department: Hardware Core Technology Center

This position is assigned to manage group of 5-10 Engineers for Wafer fab equipment Development at Eugenus Inc. in San Jose, California. The selected candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Mechanical Engineering functional role staff management as well as the development and sustaining activities of capital equipment.

The ideal candidate will be able to effectively manage staff and his/herself to execute on activities in the Mechanical Engineering Functional area. The tactical responsibility includes Problem Definition, Engineering Requirements Negotiation and Definition, Architectural Design, Systems Concepts and Evaluation, Systems Design for Performance & Reliability, ownership of engineering documents, Systems/Subsystems and component Test &Validation, transfer to Operations/Manufacturing, etc.

The selected candidate will also be required to effectively interface with all product development cross functional teams and drive detailed engineering, design, validation and manufacturing documentation to specific schedule, performance, and cost targets.

Major Responsibilities:

Perform world class Engineering Management, design and validation of semiconductor equipment and support systems according to functional and engineering specifications that meet performance, quality, reliability, cost and schedule targets.

Drive the next generation of engineering designs required to develop state of the art thin film technologies.

Architect and conceptualize semiconductor reactor and sub systems, evaluate concept alternatives in a methodical and structured manner and provide recommendations of best alternatives for engineered solutions.

Work effectively in a cross functional team environment with internal and external partners to develop new hardware for state of the art thin film deposition technologies

Work closely with other Cross Functional Staff and Supplier Engineering Function as well as vendors with the goal of generating robust manufacturing capable designs of semiconductor equipment and sub systems.

Develop testing criteria and execute validation of engineered designs

Ownership and accountability for generating detailed engineering documentation required to effectively manufacture systems and subsystems in a high volume manufacturing and prototype basis.

Drive DFMEA and DFR activities.

Technical leadership and mentoring of Mechanical Engineering Team and Cross Functional resources in organization.

Contribute to efficiency improvements of engineering best practices in the organization.

Continued self-improvement of skills.

Other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications:

MSE is required with 10+ years of Semiconductor experience and 5+ years in an Engineering Management Role.

Solid understanding of semiconductor systems, subsystems, components and support systems.

Proven track record of technical leadership and management for a group of 3-5 engineers with the ability to provide management, mentorship & guidance to other engineers.

Proven track record of generating and executing program schedules thoroughly and on-time to specified cost and performance targets.

Familiarity with major CAD / CAE Engineering Tools.

Proficiency with ANSI Y14.5 and Geometric Tolerance Standards and their use.

Proficiency with tolerance stack up analysis methods

Proven problem solving skills either intuitive or based on structured methods (Fish Bone, 8D, 5 Whys, etc.)

Proficiency with DFMEA and Predictive reliability models (i.e., Weibull analysis)

Ability to effectively work in a highly leveraged fast paced environment

Excellent communication & technical presentation skills

Proficiency with New Product Development Design best practices, including a structured design engineering process and design validation

Structured Trade-Off Analysis Methods

Ability to work effectively in a team environment - Demonstrated Proficiency in working in a highly cross functional team format

Proven Technical Leadership skills – Ability to drive/generate Systems that incorporate ME/EE/SW subject matter and propose creative problem solutions

Familiarity / expertise in Safety Standards related to Capital Equipment (SEMI S2/S8, EMC, CE, etc.)

Familiar with Wafer Automation Systems (WTM, Robots, Throughput Analysis, etc.)

Highly Desired Qualifications:

Familiarity / Proficiency with CVD / ALD Technology Systems, Components and Engineered Designs

Proficiency with NX

Variational Analysis Methods

DOE methodologies

Familiarity with Advanced FEA Structural and Thermal Design, CFD, Multiphysics, etc.
