Assistant Controller - Manufacturing

Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our growing manufacturing company in Kalamazoo. This role will assist in financial reporting, month-end close, cost accounting, and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong analytical skills and a solid background in manufacturing accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Conduct cost accounting analysis including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory reconciliations.
Lead fixed asset accounting and capital expenditure tracking.
Ensure proper internal controls are in place and recommend improvements where needed.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow projections.
Partner with operational leaders to analyze production costs, margins, and KPIs.
Assist with external audits, tax filings, and compliance documentation.
Mentor and guide junior accounting staff, promoting a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of cost accounting and manufacturing operations.
Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite).
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
