About the Assistant Controller Role
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Controller to help drive financial planning and analysis across the organization. This role is a key player in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis-supporting strategic decision-making and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
Key Responsibilities for Assistant Controller
Lead the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts in coordination with department leaders
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities
Support the month-end and year-end close processes by preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
Assist in the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial dashboards
Prepare internal financial reports, analysis packages, and presentations for senior leadership
Collaborate with operations and department managers to interpret financial results and improve cost controls
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and controls
Support audits by providing documentation and resolving inquiries from external auditors
Participate in systems improvements, financial modeling, and process automation initiatives
What You Bring as an Assistant Controller
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
4+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial analysis
Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Solid working knowledge of GAAP and internal control procedures
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems (e.g. Plex)
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Controller
CPA or CMA designation (or actively pursuing)
Experience in a manufacturing or multi-entity environment
