Job Details
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our dynamic team in the Energy industry. This position will play a pivotal role in our organization, contributing to financial decision-making and ensuring our financial operations are accurate and effective. This is a permanent, full-time position offering a competitive salary and benefits package. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of GAAP, and possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in the accounting field, preferably within the energy sector.
Responsibilities:
As an Assistant Controller, you will:
1. Prepare and examine accounting records, financial statements, taxes, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
2. Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
3. Report to management regarding the finances of the organization.
4. Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
5. Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
6. Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting, and other tax requirements.
7. Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
8. Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
9. Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, or maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
2. Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred.
3. A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on the energy industry.
4. Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
7. Proficiency in using MS Office and financial management software (e.g. SAP).
8. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
9. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
10. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential.
