Job Summary
The Controller will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in accounting processes, financial reporting, and compliance. This individual will play a critical role in managing the accounting team, streamlining systems, and working closely with project managers and leadership to provide financial insight and control across multiple construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and manage the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
Prepare and review monthly financial statements, job cost reports, and budgets.
Ensure timely and accurate job costing, project billing, and revenue recognition.
Manage WIP (Work In Progress) schedules and maintain accurate cost tracking across projects.
Oversee compliance with GAAP, tax laws, and internal controls.
Collaborate with project managers and estimators to monitor project budgets and financial performance.
Assist in audits, banking relationships, and insurance matters.
Improve and implement accounting processes and systems for efficiency and accuracy.
Train and mentor accounting staff, promoting professional development and cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a management role.
Construction industry experience required; familiarity with job costing and WIP reporting is essential.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, QuickBooks, Viewpoint, or similar construction-specific systems).
Advanced Excel skills and experience working with project management software.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
