Systems Engineer
Location: San Antonio, TX
Working Model: Hybrid (2-3 days in office)
Compensation: $95,000-$115,000 (depending on experience)
Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to support and scale their growing IT infrastructure. This individual will play a key role in managing Windows and Linux-based systems, ensuring uptime, performance, and security across on-prem and cloud environments. The ideal candidate is solutions-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about automating and optimizing system operations.
Key Responsibilities for the Systems Engineer
Deploy, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows/Linux)
Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues related to hardware, OS, and applications
Support enterprise backups, patching, and disaster recovery planning
Maintain virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and storage solutions
Collaborate with the networking and cybersecurity teams to ensure infrastructure integrity
Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or other scripting tools
Assist with cloud-based services (Azure, AWS) and hybrid environment management
Document systems configurations, standard operating procedures, and recovery protocols
Contribute to IT projects involving system upgrades, integrations, and migrations
Preferred Skills & Qualifications for the Systems Engineer
Solid experience with Microsoft server technologies and domain administration
Working knowledge of Linux system administration (Ubuntu, Red Hat, or CentOS)
Proficiency in virtualization technologies like VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V
Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery tools (Veeam, Datto, etc.)
Experience with patch management, performance monitoring, and system hardening
Pluses for the Systems Engineer
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
Scripting skills for automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
Familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or SCCM
Exposure to MDM platforms, Microsoft 365, and Intune
Experience in environments governed by IT compliance standards (SOC2, HIPAA, etc.)
Education and Experience Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
2-5 years of experience in a systems engineering, systems administration, or infrastructure support role
Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, MCSA, or CompTIA Server+ are a plus
