About the Role:

Job Summary

The EKG System Manager, functions as the first line administrative leader, with 24-hour accountability for assigned departments and personnel, with support from supervisors. The manager coordinates, elevates, and resolves problems and conflicts as they occur. He/she ensures the effective daily operation of the departments on 24-7 basis by monitoring all activities necessary to provide consistent high-quality patient care, including staffing, equipment, supplies and services. In this role, the manager will coordinate the activities of staff, is accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff including that orders are being carried out in a consistent timely manner. The manager has knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations that govern clinical practice and must exercise sound, independent judgment in adapting and applying leadership and clinical principles to specific situations. The manager relies on experience, judgment and collaboration to plan and accomplish goals. Responsible for leading department initiatives and projects as they are assigned, under the direct and indirect supervision of the Department Director. Directly supervisors unit staff. Facilitates staff development, new candidate interviews, employee evaluations, staff schedules and discipline, time and attendance, as well as assisting in other various projects. Assists with shift accountability for patient flow, matching patient needs with available resources, and elevates patient safety concerns/situations as well as any other situation that is unable to be resolved during the shift. In addition to these responsibilities, when needed the EKG System Manger may assume all or partial EKG Supervisor responsibilities. The EKG System Manager role is critical to improving the quality of care provided by the department and serves as a positive, progressive role model for the unit's staff by demonstration of professional expertise.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Licensure or other certifications: Maintain BCLS certification.

Educational Requirements: Associates Degree.

Minimum Experience: Associates Degree in Science or related field of study; Three (3) years of direct patient care experience.

Preferred Educational Requirements: A Bachelors Degree is strongly encouraged within five (5) years.

Preferred Experience: Two (2) years of progressive leadership.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership Responsibilities: Understands/recognizes individual strengths and weaknesses and is willing to seek out other experts on their team when necessary. Accepts responsibility for achieving objectives through individual work activities and the outputs of the care team. This position carries 24 hour responsibility and accountability. Coordinates activities of patient care team on the unit. Functions as part of the leadership team directly accountable to the Department Director. Stays focused on the patient care, remains informed about the status of all patients. Provides guidance to staff members, assesses staff performance, and provides feedback to Department Director. Has responsibility of timely evaluation and completion of assigned formal employee evaluations. Collaborates with other health care disciplines/departments to maintain communication and provide optimal level of patient care. Participates in decision making regarding staff flow. Oversees completion of unit specific administrative tasks such as but is not limited to: multi-campus staffing matrix(monthly/daily), time card review, huddle facilitation, conflict resolution, etc. Serves as a role model to other employees and consistently demonstrates skills and characteristics the organization values.

Clinical/Technical- represents responsibilities of System Manager directly related to patient care or the technical aspects required to work on that unit. Administrator of Cardiac Storage Application. Accountable for compliance of unread studies. Responsible for changes in staffing needs according to patient volume. Delegates work and makes staffing assignments appropriate and fairly. Assists supervisor in completing their work by filling into role if necessary. Functions as a clinical resource (knowledge of key equipment and patient care deliverables for that assigned patient population(s).

Critical Thinking competencies-represents responsibilities of the System Manager to demonstrate effective decision-making and problem-solving involving both clinical and operational issues on their unit. Anticipates patient needs, staffing requirements, assess/evaluate care delivered and adjusts to clinical and operational information. Handles stress and manages crisis situations efficiently and effectively. When crisis occurs, assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the care team and demonstrates the ability to make or adjust assignments. Uses critical thinking to troubleshoot and think ahead. Analyzes errors, takes accountability, and identifies solutions to help the staff improve performance through process improvement initiatives.

Departmental competencies-represents responsibilities of System Manager to understand and operate in the organizational environment as well as in the larger organization. Conducts monthly staff meetings with all staff in order to review, plan, and coordinate activities of the specific areas/programs and assures documentation of all meetings in defined NGHS format. Prioritizes work load and directs unit activities in organized manner. Uses effective time management skills. Proactively anticipates needs and makes adjustments to accommodate needs. Creates, monitors, and organizes new hire schedule and orientation packet. Ensures staff members are competent and compliant with annual skills. Remains current on technology treads, treatment modalities, and research findings relative to EKG, in collaboration with medical leadership, incorporate new technologies, treatments and research into clinical practice. Serves as a facilitator between staff, supervisors, and director providing feedback when necessary.

Human Relations competencies- represent responsibilities of the System Manager to interact effectively with other personnel to accomplish requirements of patient care as well as complete assigned administrative activities. Maintains accessibility/visibility on the unit- rounding with Supervisors, Director, or Providers if necessary. Has Influence over the atmosphere of unit in positive manner. Demonstrates respect with all levels of patient care team. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to foster an environment, which promotes a cohesive team. Draws on the strengths of each staff member to foster teamwork and administrates effective patient care.
