Job Description:
The Engineer Associate III will provide technician-level support for the ISAAC (Integrated Structural Assembly of Advanced Composites) facility. The role involves hands-on work with composite materials, mechanical systems, automated fiber placement (AFP), and cleanroom environments. The technician will support daily operations, tooling preparation, material handling, and maintenance activities while working closely with a multidisciplinary research team. Training on ISAAC-specific systems will be provided.
Key responsibilities include:
Operate AFP/stitching robots and assist with composite builds.
Set up and maintain tooling and fixtures for fiber placement and stitching.
Track, inventory, and stage materials (composites, fabric, towpreg, resin).
Perform maintenance on AFP equipment and cleanroom systems.
Support resin infusion processes, including degassing, oven programming, and leak checks.
Assist with mechanical testing prep and general lab maintenance.
Maintain accurate records of infusion processes and material usage.
Support procurement and stocking of consumables.
Operate cranes, forklifts, and hand tools as needed.

Requirements
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Capable of lifting 30+ lbs and working on feet for extended periods.
Comfortable working in a lab, cleanroom, or manufacturing setting.
Ability to maintain a consistent schedule and adapt to evolving task priorities.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new techniques and processes.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Ability to work hands-on with tools, machinery, and composites.
Ability to develop or assist in creating standard operating procedures.
Experience:
Hands-on experience with one or more of the following is required or strongly preferred:
Composite material handling (prepreg, hand layup, infusion)
Operating mechanical systems or lab/manufacturing equipment
Machining tools (lathe, end-mill, CNC, band saw)
Manual tools (grinders, drills, etc.)
Facility support operations (robot maintenance, material staging, HVAC support)
Cleanroom maintenance and operation
Additional preferred capabilities:
CAD software knowledge
Experience with ISAAC’s VCP programming software or similar
Familiarity with inventory management and procurement
Experience assisting with procedure development and operator training
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience preferred.
