General Description:
Responsible for providing professional nursing care, specifically telephone triage services, in a secure office setting "after hours" (evenings, nights, and weekends). Function within a legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of OU Medical Center using recognized, evidenced based, protocol driven telephone triage software. Telephone triage RN's will generate appropriate documentation, complete follow up protocols, and communicate with other health care team members as needed to ensure optimal care delivery and optimize customer satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities:

Interviews patients over the phone to collect data to implement triage process.
Assesses information to set a priority of urgency.
Chooses and use appropriate guidelines; refers to other resources as appropriate.
Applies intervention and /or activates disposition.
Educates patients and/or families.
Facilitates appropriate follow-up care.
Participates in identifying patient needs; refers to resources.
Documents the encounter with the patient in the appropriate areas of the computer program for continuity of care.
Initiates follow up phone calls with patients.
Audits charts for quality and control as requested.
Facilitates continuity of care.
General Responsibilities:
Attends nursing staff meetings.
Completes Annual Core Competency Training
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited RN program
Experience: Five (5) years' experience as a pediatric RN. Med/Surg, ED, clinic or previous Telephone Triage experience preferred.
Certifications/Registrations Required: Licensed in the State of Oklahoma as a Registered Nurse. BLS (American Heart Association) required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Relevant skills and knowledge of an RN. Ability to resolve problems and successfully implement resolutions. Ability to work well in a team environment to ensure quality patient care. Excellent public relations skills. Possess a good working knowledge of physicians, clinics and services that are available. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good Windows-based computer skills and typing ability. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations.
