The Executive Director oversees the Foundation’s philanthropy program, which is comprised of a broad range of fundraising activities to support the programs and operations of the Methodist Hospitals. These include, but are not limited to, major gifts from individuals, annual funds, foundation and government grants, corporate sponsorships, donor stewardship activities, and event planning. The Executive Director assures that these activities are designed to meet the hospital’s specific funding needs, operate within the philanthropy industry’s best practice principles, are consistent with the codes of ethical conduct of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, Association of Fund Raising Professionals, Donor Bill of Rights, and operate within legal imperatives related to 501(c)3 not-for-profit governed environments.

The Executive Director partners strongly with the Foundation Board, the Methodist Hospitals President & Chief Executive Officer, and designated executive and clinical teams to leverage fundraising opportunities linked to hospital-level initiatives.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

Direct the work and supervise staff of the Foundation in achieving annual fund-raising targets for all areas of development, including grants, major gifts, annual funds, and events. Lead the day-to-day operations to assess and adjust systems and tools toward greater efficiency and effectiveness, as needed.

Oversee the strategic development and implementation of annual events consistent with fund raising targets for the fiscal year.

Maintain the grant-sponsored project portfolio from application through post-award management. This includes work on multiple projects across various departments, preparation of interim and final grant-sponsored project reports, and facilitation of award closeout activities.

Expand upon a strong philanthropic revenue base to support growth toward endowment and planned gifts.

Implement and maintain a Moves Management system for donor identification, qualification and rating processes. Identify new donors with an interest in and capacity to provide philanthropic support to the hospital.

Oversee the daily use of the Foundation’s CRM, evaluating its efficacy, cost effectiveness and impact on daily workflow. Ensure the reliability of information currently entered for gift recording/processing, event management, gift acknowledgments, annual stewardship reports, fund account reconciliation, and retrieval of fund reports for goal setting.

Work effectively with Methodist Hospitals’ finance teams to reconcile gift revenue accounts, assure application of gifts/grants to appropriate program accounts, prepare annual budgets and provide fiscal reports to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Evaluate effectiveness of fund-raising activities and recommend changes and/or take corrective action to achieve fund raising objectives. Recommend new fund development strategies, programs and activities, as needed.

· Diagnoses, influences, facilitates and implements solutions using a consultative approach with line management that will result in a positive impact on the culture to address retention and business needs. .

Take a strategic approach to business initiatives, proposals, programs, policy development and issues as they relate to areas including, but not limited to, succession planning, organizational effectiveness, employee training and development, process efficiencies and job evaluation.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Advanced knowledge and experience in fund management techniques including grants, annual funds, and major gifts.

Demonstrated ability to exercise and maintain donor and patient confidentiality.

Possess knowledge of regulatory laws governing not-for-profit entities and implications for fund raising.

Demonstrated track record of accomplishments in a complex fundraising environment. Strong project management skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, adhere to timelines and successfully adapt to changing work priorities.

Proven knowledge and understanding of prospect research and management methods and the industry’s ethics regarding such.

Demonstrated record of achieving major gifts, grants and event goals at the $100,000 level and above.

Proficiency in donor management CRMs with experience implementing data-driven fundraising strategies.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

An understanding of and appreciation for the value of safety-net hospitals and specifically the mission and culture of Methodist Hospitals is essential.

Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships in order to gain support and achieve results.

Self-starter and strong partnering and collaborating skills.
