In this role, you will cover various shifts to support our team during co-worker PTO, primarily focusing on the dayshift from 07:00 to 15:30. Additionally, there may be opportunities to cover evening and night shifts on a short-term basis, with 6 to 8 weeks' advance notice.

OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: The Laboratory Technologist/Technician (MT/MLT) provides information for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory testing and procedures per provider orders. The MT/MLT is ultimately responsible for the quality and integrity of patient results, thus their strict adherence to procedures and policies is paramount.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs blood and body fluid analysis through multiple manual and automated methods
Ensures operation of laboratory instrumentation and other equipment through calibration, quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting
Provides thorough documentation of all procedures performed during shift including patient records, maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, and quality control procedures, outcomes, and corrective action taken
Appropriately communicates irregular events to coworkers, other departments, and management
Reports safety, compliance, and confidentiality issues through the proper channel
Complies with all local, state, and federal requirements for healthcare institutions and medical laboratories including, but not limited to, CLIA, WA DOH, and OSHA
Strictly adheres to all Snoqualmie Valley Hospital system procedures and policies as well as Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Laboratory-specific procedures and policies
Monitors laboratory supply inventory by quantifying stock and evaluating needs; reports potential shortages to laboratory administration in a timely manner
Maintains a clean and safe work environment
Participates in training of new employees and student externs
Reflects the quality of their work with respectful and friendly communication with coworkers, patients, providers, and other departments
Performs all functions of the Laboratory Assistant including inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy, clerical functions, inter-department communication, and problem solving
Covers additional shifts as requested by laboratory management REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science (MT/MLS) from a post-secondary school or college accredited by a regional or national accrediting organization recognized by the US Department of Education or high school diploma or equivalent with successful completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist
Current ASCP or AAMT certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days with proof of scheduled exam
Current WA State Medical-Assistant/Phlebotomist certificate, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days with proof of application SKILLS:
Proficiency in all laboratory departments including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology, molecular testing, and urinalysis
Ability to operate laboratory instrumentation including maintenance and troubleshooting
Ability to perform manual methods such as cell counting and microscopic examinations
Proficiency in phlebotomy and capillary blood collection
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills
Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and other software applications
Ability to use Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
Ability to perform various clerical duties including faxing, scanning, copying, and filing
Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and regulations
Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to healthcare organizations and medical laboratories
Knowledge of applicable PPE and the ability to demonstrate proper use
Ability to work with a diverse patient group including infants, children, and adults WORK ENVIRONMENT: Regular exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, toxic substances including chemical disinfectants, and other conditions associated with a hospital environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to meet the physical requirements required to perform associated laboratory tasks including:
Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds
Full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination
Standing for long periods
Stooping, bending, and reaching
