Since 1963, Sheakley has been a leader in safety management outsourcing. We are currently seeking an experienced Safety Manager for a long-term transit infrastructure project in Chicago, IL. If you have a strong background in construction safety oversight and thrive in dynamic, multi-trade environments, this is an excellent opportunity to support a major station rehabilitation initiative.
Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $50 - $60/hr
Per Diem: Not provided for this project
Completion Bonus: N/A
Pay: Weekly Schedule:
Hours: 50-60 hrs/week
Days: Monday - Friday
Shifts: Occasional night shift as needed Project Scope:
This project involves the rehabilitation of a train/subway station, including architectural, mechanical, and electrical upgrades. The Safety Manager will provide full-time on-site safety oversight for 5 to 15 active trades, supporting OSHA compliance, hazard mitigation, and daily safety coordination.
Qualifications:
Minimum OSHA 510 Certification
5+ years of relevant safety experience on construction projects (preferably infrastructure or transit-related)
Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently in high-traffic, multi-trade environments Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct project safety inspections and employee orientations
Lead daily safety meetings and toolbox talks
Ensure enforcement of all OSHA and client-specific safety policies
Monitor subcontractor safety practices and provide corrective feedback
Maintain up-to-date documentation and incident reporting
Support job hazard analysis and coordinate with all site personnel Skills:
Excellent communication and public speaking
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Effective time management and multitasking abilities
Independent, proactive, and detail-oriented Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, safety regulations for public infrastructure, and best practices in transit construction safety.
