Job Title

Area Coordinator

Position Purpose

The Area Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member whose primary responsibilities include the supervision of residential staff, community building - with a strong emphasis on programmatic development, and involvement with the oversight of residential facilities.

NOTE: This is a live-in, on-campus position. Weekend and after hour responsibilities are required.

Essential Duties Summary

Select, train, supervise, and evaluate residential staff (e.g., Resident Advisors, Graduate Assistants); facilitate communication between residential staff and the Assistant Director of Residential Life and Housing.

Facilitate the development of a student-centered community environment:

Mentor students to recognize and consider the rights, property and privileges of community members and self.

Develop and present residence hall programs and activities that are educational, social, or multicultural in nature, through supervision of Resident Advisor programs and self-generated programs. Responsible for tracking and managing the Resident Advisor programming budget.

Assist students including advising, counseling, leadership development, and code of conduct adjudication.

Coordinate and follow-through on all records pertaining to maintenance of the residential facility including submitting maintenance request orders, assessment of group and individual student damage, and weekly walk-throughs of residence halls with custodial staff.

Mediate roommate conflicts and approve and coordinate all room changes within the residence hall, as well as maintain all related records.

Assist with all major departmental processes and programs (e.g., openings, closings, Staff Selection, RA Training, RA In-Services, Room Selection, Health and Safety Inspections, New Student Orientation).

Serve on the on-call duty rotation with other Student Affairs staff to provide continuous staff and student support after hours, on breaks and holidays, and on weekends. Respond to students in need, which may be in person or through other means of communication.

Positively represent Residential Life and Housing on various departmental committees: participate fully in the professional activities and/or assignments of the Division of Student Development; develop a cooperative relationship with other campus offices Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to efficiently multitask and prioritize

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365

Minimum of one year of residence hall supervisory experience or previous undergraduate residential life experience. Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in related field preferred or the equivalent of two years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge of current issues in higher education and counseling practices
