Job Summary & Objectives

The IT Resource Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, utilization, and optimization of IT resources across both project and non-project work. This role focuses on working with IT functional managers to assess capacity, skills, and availability to support project and non-project work. The IT Resource Manager collaborates closely with IT leadership and IT teams to balance workloads, improve efficiency, and reduce resource conflicts.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Work with IT functional managers to evaluate resource capacity, skills, and availability for both project and non-project work.

Partner with IT functional and operational leads to align resource planning with IT and business priorities.

Track resource utilization trends and provide insights to optimize workload distribution.

Maintain an inventory of IT skills and expertise across teams.

Identify skill gaps in collaboration with functional managers.

Support workforce planning efforts to align IT talent with current and future business needs.

Develop and implement best practices for resource planning and allocation across IT teams.

Track and analyze resource performance metrics to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.

Establish guidelines to align resource management with company policies, service-level agreements (SLAs), and industry standards.

Prepare and present regular resource reports to leadership and key stakeholders, highlighting capacity, utilization, and forecasted needs.

Provide clear and actionable insights on resource availability and performance trends to inform decision-making.

Maintain transparency in resource allocation and project status, ensuring all teams are aligned on priorities and expectations.

Serve as the key point of contact between IT functional managers, operational leads, and IT leadership.

Highlight conflicts across project and non-project demands, working with stakeholders to develop solutions that optimize team performance and business continuity Education

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administrations, or equivalent years of experience required

Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g. Resource Management Institute certifications) is a plus. Skills and Experience

Required Skills:

Strong knowledge of IT resource planning and workforce management.

Experience working with capacity planning tools and resource management software.

Excellent data analysis and reporting skills, with proficiency in tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms.

Effective communication and stakeholder management skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Ability to balance project and operational resource needs in a dynamic environment. Preferred Experience:

7+ years of experience in IT resource management, project management, or workforce planning.

Experience in large-scale IT organizations or enterprise environments.

Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and IT service management (ITSM) methodologies. Physical Demands (required to perform essential job functions)

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work Environment

The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as in typical office or administrative work (normal light, air and space in the work environment).

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $180,000 to $200,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
