Job Title: Assistant Director Finance, Comptroller

Job Summary:

As a key member of the finance team, the Comptroller reports directly to the Chief Finance and Operations Officer. The Comptroller is tasked with planning and directing all accounting operational functions, including the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and providing leadership to departmental staff. This pivotal role also entails overseeing Payroll Processing and Reporting, Employee Expense Reimbursements, and Accounts Payable operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency for AIU and districts being supported by AIU shared services. Moreover, the Comptroller plays a critical role in guaranteeing the efficient daily operations of the business office and drives the design and execution of best practices, with a strong emphasis on automation and process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting principles.

Financial Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis of financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement, providing actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.

Internal Controls: Evaluate existing accounting and internal control systems, implement enhancements to safeguard assets, mitigate risks, and ensure the integrity of financial information.

Payroll Processing and Reporting: Direct the accurate and timely processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Prepare payroll reports for management and regulatory purposes. Including communication with shared service

Accounts Payable Operations: Oversee accounts payable functions, ensure the timely processing of vendor invoices, expense report processing, and other payments. Maintain relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve payment issues and optimize payment terms.

Leadership and Oversight: Provide leadership and guidance to departmental staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional development. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and feedback to enhance staff effectiveness.

Business Office Operations: Ensure the efficient daily operations of the business office, implementing policies and procedures to enhance productivity and streamline processes.

Process Enhancement: Drive the design and execution of best practices, emphasizing automation and process enhancements to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation required.

Proven experience in a senior accounting or financial management role, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.

Thorough understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations, with a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex accounting standards.

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, analyze variances, and develop actionable recommendations.

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of effectively leading and developing high-performing teams.

Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems required and Oracle Fusion experience is preferred.

Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Requirements:

Current Act 114, Act 34 and Act 151 required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340 (8/2011)) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
