To provide service, line construction and maintenance of the Cooperative’s distribution system; to train in the construction, operation and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities.`
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs electrical installation and maintenance activities and makes decisions at the job site as to wiring methods and materials to complete the job in compliance with state and national electrical codes and to the member's satisfaction.
· Provides effective and efficient advice, assistance, and service to the members and consumers to assist them in achieving a safe and efficient electrical operating system.
· Informs the Manager of Customer Electrical Services of conditions which are unsafe or prevent the proper operation of completed installations so that the Cooperative can assist consumers in correcting hazardous conditions.
· Prepares time and material reports as required to allow for proper billing.
· Maintains, accounts for and reconciles material inventories for assigned jobs to help assure that proper materials inventories are available as needed.
· Makes frequent checks of tools and protective equipment and attends and participates in safety meetings to become aware of safety rules and regulations and to help assure that safe working practices are followed and a safe working environment exists for the individual, fellow employees and consumers.
· Keeps fully informed of established state and national electrical codes and keeps up to date on required testing and licensing to assure that the Cooperative is meeting the necessary regulations and requirements.
· In addition to these responsibilities, may be assigned by the Manager of Customer Electrical Services to perform other duties from time to time.
· Has working knowledge and is accountable for adhering to the bucket/digger and PPE weight limitations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Four years of experience as an Apprentice Electrician required. An additional two years of experience in electrical wiring may be substituted for vocational/technical education.
· Must have or acquire working knowledge of The National Electric Safety Code and Rural Utilities Service (RUS) regulations and guidelines, and the regulations contained in the Cooperative safety manual.
· Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s license.
· Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
· May be required to drive a cooperative vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Work is mostly outside in close proximity to hot line construction and maintenance and energized conductors in varying weather conditions; and is exposed to the hazards of electrical shock and burns as well as to falls. Position requires travel throughout the service area. Work regularly scheduled Monday-Friday, although weekends and after hours may be required to meet deadlines or address distribution problems. Considerable travel over the cooperative system and works away from the office a majority of the time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Physical Effort and Dexterity: Frequent physical activity, to include walking, stooping, bending, frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., occasional lifting in excess of fifty lbs., climbing, kneeling, reaching, stooping, crawling, pushing, and working in awkward positions and enclosed spaces is normal.
· Visual Acuity, Hearing, Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately for work and safety compliance in a hot line work environment. Visual color discrimination is required to differentiate wire and part colors.Company Description
