Position Overview

International Motors’ Autonomous Systems and Safety team is responsible for developing and defining our Vehicle systems behavior, the definition of the Safety Case with the alignment to legal standard and best practices, and Autonomous and Control center concept design. Our concepts and requirements are guided by customer, legal, technical standards, or internal specifications for mechanical, electrical, and software elements of defined systems.

Senior Project Engineer – Autonomous Vehicle Safety is part of the Systems and Safety Engineering team establishing and developing vehicle systems with a special focus on supporting Autonomous technology development in automotive engineering. This position will work closely with the global team, product owner, component groups, software engineering teams and validation group during product lifecycle.

This role involves supporting the global development process by actively participating in key flow meetings, including PI planning and spring Planning and delivering assigned tasks as outlined in the sprint planning sessions.

Responsibilities

Represent vehicle functional safety standards in the product definition and safety case approach:

ISO 26262 (functional safety for automotive).

SOTIF (ISO/PAS 21448) – Safety of the Intended Functionality.

ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Levels) classification.

Gather and define product demands including safety artifacts, safe operation documentation, safety driver training materials

Coordinate safety concept sign-off with local and global stakeholders

Collect and include architecture demands, principles, and requirements to support desired system functionality

Analyze dependencies and interactions in complex automotive and autonomous vehicle systems

Development of appropriate documentation to support system development process

Collaborate with vehicle systems and cybersecurity engineers to align safety and security into system design

Collaborate with program team and product owner to support program goals and develop standard processes and approaches to ensure deliverables are on-time

Lead / participate in issue resolution activities during development, validation, and vehicle launch

Work in a team and contribute to the continuous improvement activities through participation in Lean projects, International’s design standards, process improvements etc

Problem solving and implementing solutions into the functional safety concept

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience

At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience

At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies and/or computer science experience

At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

Additional Requirements

Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

Bachelor’s degree (or above) in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering

Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE).

ISO 26262 training courses or TÜV certification.

Hardware/Software integration activities across multiple component or system development teams

Experience with Systems Engineering fundamentals, including requirements definition and verification and validation techniques.

Experience with Agile/Scrum/SAFe

Experience with systems decomposition

Experience with concept design, use case definition, data analysis, root cause analysis and driving KPIs

Direct or coordinated software development experience

Experience with some Engineering tool such as MatLab, MS Visio, INCA calibration tool and Software configuration management tools

Familiarity with Vehicle Electronics, Autonomous Electronics (Radar, Lidar, Camera, Autonomous processor, etc..)

Data/modeling techniques

Ability to learn fast, and to take ownership of assigned activities, stories, epics

Strong collaboration and leadership skills

Ability to communicate something very complex to different audiences

Ability to deal with ambiguity

Ability to look at challenges holistically with a creative mindset to resolve system challenges and constraints

Direct Experience with automotive Industries specifically with OEMs or Tier1 Suppliers

Familiarity with engineering and quality design and development methodologies: (8D, FMEA, FTA DVP&R)

Familiarity with modeling, statistics and probability theory

Familiarity with various AI-driven vision techniques and sensor processing
