Position Overview

The Data Science team at DrFirst is a fast-paced, forward-thinking group dedicated to harnessing data to generate actionable insights that drive informed decision-making. As a Data Engineer, you will take a leading role in designing, building, and maintaining reliable data pipelines and solutions that integrate data from multiple sources. Your work will help improve the performance of new and existing solutions, enhance stakeholder insights, and ensure the quality and reliability of analytics and machine learning models. In this role, you will collaborate closely with other team members to optimize data workflows, ensure data accuracy, and maintain the integrity of our data warehouse.

What you will work on

Data Engineering: Design, develop, and maintain production-grade ETL pipelines using Python and GitLab CI/CD to process healthcare data from multiple sources. Implement big data processing solutions using Apache Spark or PySpark to handle large-scale datasets efficiently.

Cloud Architecture: Configure and optimize AWS cloud services including Redshift, S3, Lambda, Glue, and EMR to build scalable data solutions. Ensure high performance, reliability, and security of cloud-based data infrastructure.

Healthcare Data Integration: Extract, transform, and load data from various healthcare systems including e-prescription workflows, and pharmacy fill/claim data sources. Ensure data compatibility and integrity across systems.

Problem-solving: Address unique and complex healthcare data challenges through critical thinking, root cause analysis, and collaborative issue resolution. Develop innovative solutions that enhance data quality and accessibility.

Data Quality & Governance: Perform thorough code and data reviews to certify projects as 'production-ready'. Implement data validation processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with healthcare data standards.

Collaboration & Communication: Document data pipelines and technical requirements. Work closely with the Data Analytics team to fulfill data extraction requests and provide properly structured data that enables stakeholders to derive actionable insights.

Innovation: Identify opportunities to leverage healthcare data in new ways. Develop prototypes and data models that enhance existing product suite capabilities and improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Data/Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering).

3+ years of experience with healthcare data ecosystems (EHR systems, e-prescription workflows, pharmacy data) and HIPAA compliance.

Expertise in database design, architecture, SQL optimization, and big data processing using Apache Spark or PySpark.

Proficiency with AWS cloud services (Redshift, S3, Lambda, Glue, EMR) and data orchestration tools (Airflow, AWS Step Functions).

Experience developing ETL pipelines with Python and CI/CD in GitLab or similar platforms.

Highly organized with strong attention to detail, ability to write data requirements for technology products, and proficiency in extracting and structuring healthcare data for actionable insights and improved patient outcomes.

Experience documenting data pipelines, communicating technical requirements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Competitive compensation, with a base salary of $100,000 - $140,000 (Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience)
