JOB SUMMARY:
Position will maintain and repair overhead electrical distribution systems such as station service transformers, capacitor banks, reclosers, intellirupters, regulators, and sectionalizers. Maintain and service substation, field, and lab devices. Perform wiring modifications to any BrightRidge apparatus as required. Inspect and report on conditions of substation and field equipment. Maintain and archive documentation. Assist substation supervisor and substation lead as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensure proper safety procedures are followed and inform employees of any safety hazards that may be encountered while performing the job.
Maintain and repair substation and overhead electrical distribution equipment.
Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of transformers (single-phase and three-phase) and associated equipment.
Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and repairs to support system performance and safety.
Operate and work from bucket trucks and other equipment as needed.
Install conduit, wire, cable, and equipment.
Coordinate or conduct complex substation and line switching orders as directed by the Control Room.
Respond to outage situations and emergency requests, including restoring power during storm events and unexpected system failures.
Refuse lines to restore electricity during power outages as directed.
Open and close switches to isolate defective equipment and adjust or remove equipment for repair.
Perform maintenance work, including switching on all types of substation and field equipment of all voltages. Some of the maintenance work is performed on energized equipment of various voltages and near energized equipment.
Perform monthly substation, battery, and infrared inspections. Instals wiring to proper connection points and ensures good electrical connections are achieved and wiring is professionally installed.
Inspect, test, maintain, and repair line protective devices as required.
Ensure the overall efficiency, operation, and maintenance of substation, field, and lab devices.
Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and utility vehicles in accordance with safety regulations and company policies.
Work collaboratively with other team members, engineers, and supervisors to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
Adhere to all OSHA, company, and APPA safety standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), insulated gloves, job briefings and lockout/tagout procedures.
Complete necessary documentation and reports related to work orders, material usage, and safety compliance.
Ability to maintain reliable, predictable and reasonable attendance.
Perform pole top/bucket rescue as required.
Informs supervisor of conditions of lines and equipment. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must maintain a valid CDL drivers' license from state of residence.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Maintains any vehicle assigned to them.
Must be available for after-hours problem repairs, outages and scheduled work. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Proficiency in climbing poles and working from aerial devices (bucket trucks).
Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, transformer installation, and service connections.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both routine and emergency situations.
Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
Basic working knowledge of electrical principles and all related apparatuses in accordance with local safety regulations.
Must be qualified to perform work on high-voltage equipment.
Must possess good communication skills via the telephone and radio.
Must successfully complete training in apparatus repairs and hot line work.
Must have knowledge of high lines, substations, feeder lines, transformers and meters.
Must have some operating experience with skid steer, mini-ex, digger truck, material truck, pole truck, and working experience with bucket truck operations.
Must be able to make quick decisions regarding line work.
Must be able to perform job functions in extreme hot, cold, dry and wet conditions during the day or night.
Must be capable of working on a personal computer.
Must possess troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical equipment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires strenuous physical activity. Job requires constant vision, depth perception, arm/hand, leg/foot and simple grasp for machine control operation. Requires frequent head/neck movement (rotation and bending), standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling, pick/pinch, feeling, fine manipulation, squatting, stooping, overhead lift, twisting, turning, talking, hearing, and cutting. Must be able to lift 95 lbs. Must have good ambulation for varying terrains. Must have good grip strength and manual dexterity. Must be able to produce varying amounts of push/pull force. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to carry, erect, and climb an extension ladder. Must not have a fear of heights.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The majority of the duties of this position are performed outside in varying weather conditions.
Substation Linemen are subject to call-out in the event of outages or other emergencies.

Regular daytime hours, Monday-Friday (with flexibility as needed for scheduled work). QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Technical certification as a journeyman/lineman is required.
5 years experience working as a journeyman lineman is preferred.
Substation experience a plus.
Must have a valid commercial driver's license.
