Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field in hand by May 30, 2025. A strong background in life sciences. Experience in technology development and assessment, business related activities (finance, marketing, business development, etc.), or advanced research related/laboratory activities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace. Familiarity with database search tools and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of Fundamentals of the Bioscience Industry Certificate Program, or similar commercialization training. Grant writing experience. Experience in a bio-technology development, commercialization, business development, or investment environment. Experience with life sciences start-up companies. Knowledge and understanding of the private equity community, technology management and due diligence process. Direct experience with the bioscience industries.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Directors of The Center for Biotechnology. The incumbent will help develop and implement strategic consulting, business development and technology commercialization services on behalf of bioscience companies. This will include conducting due diligence on emerging technologies and companies (intellectual property, market assessments, competitive landscape, regulatory, reimbursement) to help guide funding and investment decisions; manage skills development activities and other educational programs offered by the Center through curriculum oversight, recruitment, mentoring, and lecturing, as appropriate. Assist in the execution of other Center programs including BioStrategy Sessions, Technology Commercialization Clinic, BioEntrepreneur-in-Residence, and Life Sciences Summit. This position is meant to provide recent graduates who have an interest in Technology Commercialization with hands-on specialized training while independently furthering the development of programs and relationships with interested parties. The incumbent will also conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

Duties:

● Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of Biomedical Engineering/Biotechnology.

● Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.

● Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.

● Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.

● Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

Special Notes:

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
