MagTech is currently hiring a Senior Concrete Estimator for a client in the Macomb County, MI area. Please apply below if you are interested and meet the qualifications.

Description:

The Sr. concrete estimator is construction professional responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, and drawings to accurately calculate the quantity and cost of concrete materials needed for structural elements like grade beams, columns, slabs, and concrete walls in a construction project, then preparing detailed and competitive bids by factoring in labor, equipment, and other relevant costs while collaborating with project managers and subcontractors to ensure project success. The Sr. Estimator will take on projects ranging from $50,000 to $10 million from the initial bid phase all the way to project hand off.

Responsibilities:

Reviewing project documents: Thoroughly analyze bid packages with Director including but not limited to architectural, structural, and civil drawings to understand the scope of work, including concrete quantities and reinforcement details.

Quantity takeoffs: Accurately calculate the volume of concrete required for various structural elements using specialized software and estimating tools.

Material cost analysis: Research and determine the current market prices for concrete, reinforcement bars, formwork materials, and other related components.

Labor cost estimation: Calculate the labor hours needed for concrete placement, finishing, and formwork based on project complexity and crew size.

Equipment cost evaluation: Assess the cost of necessary construction equipment like concrete pumps, mixers, heavy equipment, and cranes.

Subcontractor bidding: Coordinate with subcontractors for pricing on specialized concrete work like post-tensioning or decorative finishes.

Preparing detailed estimates: Compile all cost elements into a comprehensive bid package, including breakdowns of materials, labor, equipment, and contingencies.

Bid presentation/Submittal: Present estimates to clients, project managers, and other stakeholders, explaining the rationale behind pricing and addressing any concerns.

Market awareness: Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, labor rates, and new concrete technologies to ensure accurate estimates.

Project Monitoring: Pre bid walk-thru, Track job project and perform inspections to ensure budget, schedule and quality are being maintained. Make sure any change orders are accounted for with an updated scope of work and cost adjustments.

Communication: Coordinate with Superintendent, project engineer and director to make sure they have a clear understanding of scope of work, schedule and budgets at the hand-off meeting. Job Qualifications and Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in construction, Engineering, or equivalent relevant work experience.

Must have a minimum of 5 years' experience estimating commercial projects.

Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.

Knowledge of all aspects of concrete Foundations and/or Flatwork.

Experience with Bluebeam, Pro Contractor, or preferred estimating software.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in a written format.

Must have strong analytical skills, pay attention to detail, solid multi-tasking skills and able to follow through and meet strict public due dates.

Experience with earthwork/utilities is a plus but not required.

Strong understanding of structural concrete design principles and construction practices

Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications

Excellent mathematical skills for calculations and quantity takeoffs

Experience with construction estimating software and tools

Knowledge of relevant building codes and industry standards

Effective communication and presentation skills to interact with clients and subcontractors

Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
