Primary Purpose:
Serves as Painter within the General Maintenance Shop of the Comal Independent School District (CISD). Responsible for the application, service, repair, maintenance, and inspections of wall coverings, paint and corrosion control on an array of building structural and architectural systems. These systems include but are not limited to interior and exterior walls, student and athletic lockers, wooden and metal personnel access doors, windows, foundations, partitions and structural barriers, ladders, hatches, ceramic and masonry partitions, and parking lots. Includes flooring, handrails and devices supporting the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
Valid Texas Driver's License withdriving record that meets the requirements of the district. Special Knowledge/Skills:
Skill and knowledge of painting techniques and associated tools.
Ability to perform basic math.
Ability to read, understand,and carry out instructions in English.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to operate paintingequipment in a safe manner.
Average knowledge and ability to use and/or learn to use a personal computer. Above average proficiency is required in the use of Maintenance Software.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Able to distinguish the difference between the various assortment of paint pigments and their applications. Experience/ Other Requirements:
One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Removal of graffiti from district property using the latest non-obtrusive and bio-friendly materials.
Consults and instructs campus personnel on proper paint and sundries applications.
Applies various stains, paints and epoxies with a variety of finishes to all applicable materials to ensure minimum imperfections (less than 2%).
Determine the methods, techniques, materials, devices, and materials used are correct and up to date with the latest technology.
Layout of traffic, parking, crosswalks and playground areas conform to application and requiredordinances where safety traffic paint is utilized.
Installation of drywall to include taping, floating, texturing, priming, and painting.
Disposal of all paint products in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Application of various non-skid materials to walking surfaces to ensure safety of the end user.
Practice approved operations of equipment to ensure longevity of equipment.
Maintains confidentiality of all information.
Frequently required to drive District vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks.
Reports to work on time every day.

Hand and Airless Sprayers, sand blasters, pressure washers, line stripers, texture sprayers, air compressors, generators, ladders, scaffolds/fall protection equipment, site instruments; transit leveling; lifts (Tommy, Genie with 24' extension and Hidro Grubert extending toa height of 50'); assortment of paint brushes, mixers, putty knifes, razor blades, district vehicles.

Landscaping tasks requirethe employee to perform strenuous work under extremely harsh job conditions: stepping over and around tripping hazards and sharp objects while carrying heavy loads.
The employee is required to wear protective equipment when operating machinery or for heavy moves,to include wearing of protective head-gear for protection from falling objects such as limbs and branches being cut above the workplace.
Moderate degree of communication (verbal and written), understanding verbal instructions and emotional control.
May be required to work outside of normal duty hours and/or weekends or holidays in order to handle emergencies if they arise.
Required to carry District provided pageror two-way radios to respond to emergency service calls on a 24 hour basis.
The employee is required to frequentlydrive District vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks. The individual must pass a pre-employment physical examination to include alcohol and drug testing. The employee may be required to submit to drug and alcohol screening at any time throughout employment without prior notification.
