Program Summary:
The Credible Messenger Program is an intense mentoring program that provides services to youth and their families who are receiving commitment services from the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services Agency (DYRS). The mission of the mentoring program is to connect all young people in the care and custody of DYRS to healthy homes and supportive communities in the Washington DC area. Sasha Bruce is committed in managing the Credible Messenger Program in an effort to assist youth with attaining goal relative to education/vocational trade attainment, employment/job ready skills, family reconnection/family sustainability and life skills development. The Credible Messenger Program strives to develop our youth as young leaders within their communities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This Program Coordinator will be responsible for the management and administration of the program, the supervision of mentors and parent coaches, communication with DYRS, tracking and management of data, and coordination with the training and technical assistance provider, the evaluator, and the documentary filmmaker.
The Program Coordinator should have relevant experience in the field, strong management abilities, and the maturity, wisdom, and integrity to manage Credible Messengers. The Program Coordinator at SBY will report directly to the Chief of Programs. This position has a typical shift of Monday-Friday 10am-6:00pm, On-Call flexible.
• Oversee daily operations of the program including the enrollment, orientation, attendance, assuring effectiveness of individual and implementation of groups provided to participants.
• Maintain programmatic contractual responsibility assuring that all deliverables are met, resources are being appropriately utilized, and participants are engaging into the mentoring groups as well as other community-based resources.
• Manage and support crisis intervention needs of youth and families using a strength competency-based framework.
• Support and model the facilitation of therapeutic groups with youth and families experiencing crisis with goals focused on reunification and life skills.
• Conducts community-based home visits, school visits, and collateral visits to meet and conduct case managing and crisis stabilization sessions to support youth and families
• Monitor the documentation of case notes, family engagement goals, psycho-social assessments, court reports, etc. to ensure a high level of accuracy and proficiency.
• Collaborate with DYRS Case Managers to provide program updates for enrolled youth
• Enters case management data into systems such as FAMCARE, VisionServer, etc.
• Monitor the facilitation of pro-social, psycho-educational groups for youth, teens and families.
• Provide staff supervision and evaluation to staff to further professional development
• Facilitate the growth, healing, personal development, recovery and transformation of system-involved youth.
• Assist in training or assuring staff are up to date with training, leadership development, and community service project and activities as needed.
• Oversee and manage budgeting of the program.
• Submit reports of program progress, update, outcomes and achievements.
• Participate in Lead Entity Coalition Meetings, DYRS management meetings and other Credible Messenger Meetings to support the management of the program.
• Support the connection of resources to the youth and families to address services such as mental health, health, counseling, substance abuse prevention, sex prevention, etc.
• Lead the effort of connecting families to community support family groups/workshops (I.e.- DYRS and/or other community providers) within the community.
• Liaisons with mainstream agencies and participate in case conferences meetings (i.e.- TDM, etc.).
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in human services delivery system or degree in Business /Public Administration or related field with minimum of 5 years supervisory experience. Master's degree with at least 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
• Experience working with at-risk youth and families preferred.
• Previous direct service, clinical and supervisory experience needed.
• Candidate should have DYRS experience.
• Strong communication and organizational skills required. Ability to complete FBI Background check, Police Clearance, Child Protection Clearance, and Driving Clearance.
• Great work ethic, excellent time management, efficiency, problem solving, and customer service skills.
• Possess strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to multitask, maintain confidentiality, and be detailed oriented.
• Ability to work extra hours, attend meetings/training, when needed.
