About the Opportunity
One of the main goals for this position is to supply a guarantee that all the structures are working properly, and all the machinery have the maintenance updated, under the Lead Supervisor supervision. This goal includes other tasks outside of the maintenance department like support the installation of new irrigation systems and irrigation in rotation with the rest of the colleagues.
About the Department
Zambujeira Test Plot is in Zambujeira do Mar, Portugal, and runs more than 20 different trials. Trials are from four different crops (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries). The Test Plot area is 2 hectares. The Test Plot worker carries out very important tasks for the trials such as spray treatments, prepare substrate for planting, trellising, open and close the window tunnels and the doors regarding the Technical grower or Lead Supervisor advisement, post-planting operations, prune plants, put and take out the shading net, changing plastic, put and take out the weeding net and harvest.
Responsibilities
• Perform maintenance of the plant and spray treatments at the test plot.
• This position is required to have the availability to adjust the schedule regarding the needs in the test plot particularly due to harvest, spray schedule and husbandry schedule.
• Assist other colleagues around areas noted above at the Test plot, in particular, harvest team, the maintenance workers and irrigation team.
• Provide guidance on several tasks to more unexperienced and agency personal.
Responsibilities
• Assist on the onboarding of agency staff.
• Carry out training of agency staff as per written global protocols on harvest evaluation.
• Support Test Plot operation including pruning, tunnel settings, data collection and harvest.
• Arrange that representative shelf life, brix, sensory and customer samples are prepared/delivered on time.
• Provide support with visiting customers, growers and visitors.
Candidate Profile
• Education & training - High School Diploma
• 1 Year of experience as a field worker
• Language Skills - Portuguese is necessary, English is appreciated
• Skills & behaviors - Good communication skills
• Moderate knowledge of Microsoft office
