Vice President, Data Science – Investment Intelligence (New York)

Blackstone Data Science (BXDS) is the firm-wide team that uses advanced analytics and statistical methods to make the group better investors and business operators. It consists of data scientists, engineers, and strategists who collaborate closely with investment teams to analyze complex datasets, develop predictive and analytical models, build production-quality data flows, and advise on smarter data utilization. BXDS is part of the firm's Operating Team. They work hand-in-hand with management teams to build more valuable businesses and accelerate growth.

Position Summary

Blackstone is seeking a VP within BXDS to focus on Investment Intelligence. They will work across Blackstone’s private equity strategies to build programmatic capabilities and support better investment decision-making leveraging data science, advanced quantitative methodologies, and AI. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of foundational data science expertise with a strong degree of commercial-mindedness, with high creativity and a deep understanding of how their work translates to the investment process. The VP will also lead and contribute to the development of a team of data scientists.

This person will help shape and build systems that provide investment insight while maintaining their interpretability, and should have a strong orientation towards building models that can scale and drive value across many workstreams. With a strong background in quantitative research representing a blend of math, statistics, economics and computer science, this person’s core should be deep analytical research methodology paired with effective communication skills in order to convey technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a systems thinker who seeks to build scalable products that address important questions for many / all deals across our private equity strategies.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility opportunity to help shape the application of data science within one of Blackstone’s largest, most dynamic investment platforms. You will work closely with senior leadership and gain exposure across Blackstone’s Private Markets strategies while tapping into the resources of Blackstone’s broader technology ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the ongoing development of models, metrics, and benchmarks that shape and inform our investment strategies

Collaborate with BXDS leadership to identify and build core models for the business

Lead and mentor a team of data scientists

Lead and further develop inflight initiatives around time series forecasting for investment decision making, benchmarking key company metrics, developing company-specific forecasts and monitoring, and leveraging generative AI for processing and reasoning on unstructured data

Communicate insights and recommendations to senior private equity leadership to inform investment decision-making and strategy

Help drive the vision for the team going forward, including new analysis and products

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in data science, driving outcomes through the thoughtful application of data science models and data-driven methods

A systems thinker with a full stack data science background, with expertise in machine learning, predictive analytics, and data management. Strong foundation in statistics and mathematics

Strong experience in Python and SQL for performing analysis

Interest in investment concepts, specifically private equity and real estate, with intellectual curiosity on how companies work and a desire to build models to quantitatively understand companies

Interest in technology and data science, with a desire to continually learn about new data science methods, advanced analytical and forecasting techniques

Balance data science and fundamental concepts when creating models

Excellent stakeholder management capabilities

Sound business judgment, commercial-mindedness, and strategic thinking in order to serve as a trusted sounding board to business leadership

Communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences effectively both orally and in writing

Self-starter who can work independently and meet deadlines with minimal oversight

Expected annual base salary range:

$175,000 - $185,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.

Additional compensation: Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.
