Provides reliability and maintenance engineering technical support with the primary purpose of increasing rotating equipment reliability.

Works with Machinery Engineers to provide vendor surveillance (including the qualification of vendors) for rotating equipment repairs, spare parts, and new purchases to ensure Valero specifications are met.

Works with Machinery Engineers to develop rotating equipment repair standards and procedures for rotating equipment that is to be repaired by an outside vendor or by Valero Maintenance in accordance with OEM standards and specifications. Detailed instructions, quality control and documentation requirements will be included.

Provides consultation (including hands on assistance) to Machinists, Planners, Engineers, and Operators on rotating equipment troubleshooting developing work scopes, repairs, and operational requirements.

Works with Machinery Engineers to analyze rotating equipment performance (actual versus design) to determine if repairs or modifications are required.

Provides recommendations to achieve optimum equipment performance.

Champions root case failure analysis efforts for rotating equipment to improve equipment reliability.

Assists Machinery Engineers and Maintenance Planner to implement, maintain, and audit Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programs for rotating equipment.

Utilizes calculations, evaluations, and cost and risk analysis to evaluate and prioritize reliability issues for rotating equipment repairs and purchases.

Audits rotating equipment vendor repair facilities to measure the effectiveness of reliability related activities.

Travels to rotating equipment vendor repair facilities to witness hold points on critical equipment repairs.

Prepares request for quotations (RFQ) and bid evaluations for rotating equipment repairs and purchases.

Monitors SAP database to ensure spare parts for critical rotating equipment are available when needed.

Provides expertise and leadership on critical rotating equipment repairs during turnarounds which includes cost estimation.

Assists Rotating Equipment Superintendent and Training Department with a rotating equipment operator training program, machinist skill upgrade program and the development of training materials as required.

Assists in the evaluation of equipment history, PM and PdM data and makes recommendations for reliability improvement.

Works closely with the rotating equipment planner, maintenance superintendent and maintenance engineers in establishing schedules and work scopes for routine maintenance, projects and unit shutdowns.

Works closely with purchasing, the warehouse, maintenance superintendents, maintenance lead technicians and planners in coordinating the delivery offsite repaired equipment.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Port Arthur Refinery, required.

High School diploma or GED required.

5 years of machinist, millwright, or rotating equipment experience required.

3 years of vibration analysis and monitoring experience preferred.

Experience with Emerson CSI 2130 data collector / AMS Machinery Manager, ADRE 408 and Bently Nevada System 1 preferred.

Level I vibration analysis certification preferred.
