Area of Assignment - Parks & Grounds - Athletic Field Maintenance
The primary focus of this position is to support the maintenance, preparation, and overall care of parks, athletic fields, and public spaces. This role includes responsibilities such as preparing and maintaining sports fields for games and tournaments, performing routine horticultural and turf maintenance, inspecting and repairing park equipment and irrigation systems, and assisting with the setup and breakdown of special events and town functions. The position will also operate light equipment and vehicles related to groundskeeping and contribute to general landscape restoration and clean-up efforts.

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing basic, routine custodial, building, grounds, streets maintenance and repair, or general manual labor.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an entry level maintenance/trades classification in the maintenance and operations job family where basic tasks and assignments requiring little or no previous training or experience are performed. This is the first classification in a career progression or the terminal level for positions with very basic and/or limited duties. Work is designed to provide initial experience and training under direct supervision.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of acceptance of the offer.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.
Performs basic, routine horticultural maintenance, and weed/pest management; property and wash clean-ups; special event preparation.
Performs custodial duties, including cleaning and sanitizing all necessary areas, emptying trash and recycling and floor mopping.
Miscellaneous projects and repairs.
Meeting set up and tear down.
Inspects areas and determines replacement and repair needs.
Performs routine preventative maintenance and general maintenance activities.
Operates a variety of equipment in assigned area of responsibility.
Performs related work as assigned.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES
Assignment to a competency rank is at the sole discretion of the Town and is based on the achievement of all of the following in combination: education, experience, assigned duties, certification and license requirements.
If assigned to Parks and Grounds:
Prepares athletic fields for events.
Performs routine maintenance and repair to irrigation and/or flood systems.
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and 1 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Driver’s License;
Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.
