JOB SUMMARY

The Riverside Transit Agency is recruiting to fill one vacancy for the position of Risk Management Specialist in our Risk Management Department.

The Risk Management Specialists gathers, evaluates, analyzes and prepares department reports. Balances multiple tasks and performs administrative duties in support of the overall risk management functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are standard for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

Reviews and investigates incidents and accidents identifying employee, vehicle, scheduling downloads of videos; and viewing, copying and archiving videos. This process includes coordination with Operations, Maintenance, and Information Technology Departments.

Processes workers’ compensation claims by performing computer data entry, preparing folders and reports and updating the workers’ compensation logs and other OSHA related reporting. Coordinates initial investigation of claims and continuously monitors the claims on an ongoing basis.

Maintains claim data file in Access, workers’ compensation files, various OSHA reporting logs, First Aid Log, as well as various files and records. Archives documents as needed.

Maintains a repository of all Certificates of Insurance for the Agency and follows up with vendors and procurement to ensure that all Certificates of Insurance are up to date.

Assists with the safety portion of the monthly NTD reporting requirement and completes Risk and Safety new hire training for all new employees.

Prepares letters, reports, memoranda and other documents as required and clerical assistance.

Interfaces with attorneys, insurance adjusters, employees, customers and the general public regarding claims against the Agency.

Coordinates attendance of Agency employees at court proceedings/mediations and assists in preparing discovery documents.

Assist with general liability and subrogation claims when necessary by collecting, completing and preparing accident reports, assigning case numbers, securing estimates and videos, copying and transmitting reports when necessary.

Participates in and coordinates various meetings such as file reviews, weekly staff meetings, and Safety Committee meetings.

Answers and screens incoming telephone calls; schedules appointments for the Director of Risk Management and Risk Manager and maintains confidential files.

Assists in processing department mail and with reception coverage as needed.

Coordinates department projects as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; three years of senior-level clerical experience in a related field; and two years relevant experience in claims, safety, OSHA and risk management responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Knowledge of basic office equipment and personal computers. Familiarity with software programs such as Microsoft Office, to include Word, Excel, Access, etc.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of a valid non-restricted California driver's license is required.

Ability to type 35 wpm. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to keep confidential information. Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize workload. Ability to multi-task and work with time sensitive deadlines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in a team-oriented environment. Must maintain a professional image and effectively deal with the public. Must have strong English grammar and punctuation skills. Bilingual in Spanish/English is desirable. Knowledge of basic office equipment.
