King County Library System (KCLS) is seeking a customer-focused Building Maintenance Technician I with direct experience or training in construction and/or facilities maintenance work in North King County libraries.
General Position Summary
As a Building Maintenance Technician, you will have the opportunity to:
Provide preventive maintenance and repairs to buildings so that they are structurally sound, safe, free from health hazards, comfortable, and appealing.
Provide routine maintenance and repair to equipment
Ensure that services provided meet established regulatory compliance and organizational standards and schedules.

This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor as part of a collaborative Facilities Maintenance team responsible for coordinating all major and routine maintenance projects throughout the library system. The Facilities Maintenance team plays a key role in ensuring that all community library buildings, shipping warehouse, and administrative office building continue to be safe and productive spaces for all community members and staff.

Examples of Duties

Inspects facilities and performs routine or preventive maintenance and repairs as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, painting, wall repair, lamp replacement, roof top inspections, moderate plumbing, electrical, and other mechanical repairs.
Completes work orders involving more extensive repairs as associated with an established route or assigned on a project basis.
Responds to facility emergencies and provides temporary or lasting repairs as the situation dictates.
Maintains library parking lots and entryways. Ensures they are free from debris, snow/ice, fallen leaves, and other obstacles that detract from visual appeal or contribute to safety hazards.
Continuously evaluates the condition and performance of equipment used and performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs as needed.
Operates hand and power tools and other machinery to perform the work required. Ensures work is performed in a manner that complies with state and federal safety regulations.
Creates and maintains facility maintenance and repair records and reports. Secondary Duties
Hangs banners and moves furniture and shelves.
Assists with preparing libraries for closing and reopening for non-routine operations.
Attends meetings and trainings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Desired Minimum Qualification
Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Training in construction or facilities work.
Three years of practical and generalist facilities maintenance experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position will be considered.Knowledge and Skills

Professional Licenses and Certifications
A valid Washington State driver’s license and be an insurable driver by KCLS is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and in weather extremes. Extensive driving between facilities is required. Work will be performed in high/precarious places and tight quarters, near moving mechanical parts including high-pressure equipment, and some exposure to electric shock. Regularly exposed to chemicals and solvents. Incumbent serves in on-call rotation to respond to maintenance emergencies on evenings and weekends.
