Direct Support Professional - Day Habilitation

Hiring Immediately - Direct Support Professional The Arc Wayne of Newark, NY announces a full-time Direct Support Professional ( DSP ) opening for our Day Habilitation Program, to provide person-centered supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a Day Habilitation setting.

In this role you will support people to develop life and/or pre-vocational skills while supporting their confidentiality, privacy, human dignity, uniqueness and both physical and emotional well-being.

You will also be responsible for their safety and well-being while at Day Habilitation and community settings.

The Direct Support Professional ( DSP ) for Day Habilitation earns a starting wage of $14.90/hr.

A Day In The Life As A Direct Support Professional ( DSP ): As a DSP for our Day Habilitation Program, you support individuals to plan and complete meaningful activities of their choosing that may include, but are not limited to recreational, learning and physical fitness activities, development of individual interests and the pursuit of personal goals.

You will assist individuals in maintaining safe and healthy lifestyles, and will provide assistance in making healthy dietary choices while following pre-established orders by medical professionals.

You may also provide assistance with eating, direct personal support with bathroom responsibilities such as but not limited to: shaving, brushing teeth, bathing/showering, bathroom use and dressing; will monitor and maintain a clean, safe and secure environment for individuals at all times, while providing Day Habilitation services according to each individual's plan, and will participate in building evacuation and fire drills.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required Valid NYS driver's license required Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to physically assist individuals who use wheelchairs and/or walkers Previous experience in the Human Services Field, as a Home Health Aide or a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a plus!

Work schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday (7:30am - 3:30pm), 40 hours/week.
