About this job

The bulk of the data engineer’s work would be in building, managing and optimizing data pipelines and then moving these data pipelines effectively into production for key data and analytics consumers (like business/data analysts, data scientists or any persona that needs curated data for operational and analytical data use cases.

Data engineers also need to guarantee compliance with data governance and data security requirements while creating, improving and operationalizing these integrated and reusable data pipelines. This would enable faster data access, integrated data reuse and vastly improved time-to-solution for CarMax’s operational and analytical initiatives

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain role-based access controls (RBAC) in the Enterprise Snowflake Platform

As a thought leader in Data & Analytics Platforms, evaluate new technologies and features, design and implement them by partnering with architects and end users

Drive self service capabilities and ongoing automation initiatives

Design, implement, automate, and maintain Cybersecurity Audit reporting for user access, role permissions, system administration, and operational activities for Data & Analytics platforms

Partner with Vendors, Customers, and Peer teams to implement intelligent, predictable, reliable, scalable, cost-efficient, and easy-to-use platforms and frameworks for Data Science Machine Learning (DSML), Master Data Management, Data Engineering

Collaborate with other data teams to proactively identify cost anomalies and savings opportunities

Evaluate capacity requirements and automate necessary scaling within Azure environment

Implement Azure cloud capabilities including but not limited to Data Factories, Batch Accounts, storage, Key Vaults, Log Analytics, and automated deployments

Implement, configure, monitor, and maintain cloud-based Data & Analytics platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake. Troubleshoot and resolve environment performance, connectivity, access, and security issues

Self-directed and able to balance the priorities of multiple teams, systems, and products

Work collaboratively in teams and develop meaningful relationships to achieve common goals

Streamline development and operational processes via continuous integration, deployment, automated testing while leveraging Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles

Drive efficient resolution for system outages as well as performance and functional shortcomings. Engage in critical support situations and effectively, efficiently, and quickly drive successful resolution

Purpose of the role

The platform engineer will be a key contributor in evaluating, designing and implementing advanced features along with ensuring reliability, scalability, security of Data & Analytics platforms.

Qualifications and Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent area

5+ years with Snowflake Platform engineering experience in an enterprise-level environment

3+ years experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI

3+ years leading the end-to-end design and development of scalable services to be consumed by the enterprise, including monitoring and production support

3+ years developing and maintaining NIST-aligned Cybersecurity audit functionality

Advanced proficiency with Python, SQL, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Bicep templates, and PowerShell is required.

5+ years of DevOps experience with a clear understanding of related tools, structure, and processes working in an Agile/Scrum setting

Experience in cloud cost-savings plans, reviews, and reserved instances

Experience in DevOps and SRE practices, testing frameworks, Infrastructure as Code, and building CI/CD pipelines

Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to various audience types

Experience on a fast-paced, highly collaborative agile team within a Product-oriented organization

Effective problem-solving, analytical thinking, and a cloud-native and security-first mind set

Strong documentation, communication, and presentation skills

Ability to positively influence team norms, culture, and technical vision

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cloud services such as Snowflake, Databricks, Data Factory, Event Hub, Functions, Batch, Key Vault, and Log Analytics

Strong experience with popular database programming languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, Stored Procedures

Snowflake SnowPro, Azure, Databricks certifications

Familiarity with microservices software architecture and Machine Learning experience is preferred

Working knowledge of ETL/ELT, CDC, Message-Oriented data movement, API design and stream data integration. Moderate experience with Big Data

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of one of the following locations and have a Hybrid work arrangement:
