Organization's Summary Statement :

The Sponsored Programs Accounting and Compliance Office (SPAC) is the designated post-award administration office for the University of Maryland College Park. SPAC facilitates cost analysis, reporting, billing and collection of funds for all federal, state and private sponsored agreements. SPAC handles sponsored related audits and offers guidance to the research community on financial compliance matters relating to sponsored agreements on behalf of the University.

The office works closely with the Office of Research Administration (ORA) and other campus units coordinating financial and compliance information from proposal submission through closeout of the award. SPAC provides oversight of the administration and management of sponsored award activity to ensure compliance with current or revised University and governmental regulations and procedures and provides ongoing training on post-award subject.

Job Description Summary:

The Graduate Student supports the Sponsored Programs Accounting & Compliance office under the Division of Research, providing general administrative support and executing specific projects related to sponsored programs' cost and compliance teams.

Duties will include:

Coordinate closing process at the end of sponsored award period

Prepare and maintain complex spreadsheets

Work with the cost team to help prepare the Department of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) rate development process

Assist with gathering and analysis of financial data

Assist with developing form and spreadsheet in analyzing Service Centers expenditures

Provide support to Compliance team members

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to attend meetings both on and off campus. Spending long hours in front of a computer screen.

Preferences:

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required

Applicants should have expertise with software such as Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a registered graduate student in good standing enrolled in a degree program at the University of Maryland and must be making satisfactory progress toward the degree.
