Scope of Work: Nurse Educator
I. Project Overview:
The Nurse Educator will provide expert clinical instruction and facilitation for College of the Desert Nursing Department students participating in a clinical rotation at Alzheimer Coachella Valley (ACV) Club Journey. The Nurse Educator will ensure a comprehensive learning experience focused on dementia care, communication strategies, and practical application within the Club Journey program.
II. Responsibilities:
Clinical Orientation and Scheduling:
Schedule clinical orientation sessions in collaboration with the College of the Desert Nursing Department faculty, ensuring alignment with their academic calendar.
Facilitation of Pre and Post Conferences:
Conduct pre-conference sessions covering safety protocols, scenario-based learning, and student expectations.
Facilitate post-conference sessions to review student experiences, address questions, and reinforce learning objectives.
Classroom Instruction:
Deliver classroom introductions to ACV's mission, history, and programs.
Clearly define the roles and responsibilities of clients, caregivers, volunteers, and students within the ACV context.
Provide comprehensive overviews of dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and other cognitive disorders.
Instruct students on effective communication tips and strategies for interacting with individuals with dementia.
Present up-to-date information on Alzheimer's disease, diagnosis, and treatment options.
Provide students with access to relevant print, online, and community resources.
Club Journey Integration:
Facilitate student introductions to clients and caregivers participating in the Club Journey program.
Ensure active student participation in the Club Journey experience, providing guidance and support as needed.
Evaluation and Documentation:
Evaluate student learning through subjective and objective written evaluations, as well as pre/post-tests.
Collect student demographic information and ensure the completion of waiver of liability forms.
Annual Planning:
Schedule and conduct a planning meeting each May with the College of the Desert Nursing Faculty to review the program and plan for the following academic year.
III. Deliverables:
Schedule clinical orientation sessions.
Facilitate pre and post conference sessions.
Deliver classroom instruction.
Facilitate student integration into Club Journey.
Complete student evaluations and documentation.
IV. Qualifications:
Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Malpractice Insurance required.
Experience:
8-10 years of experience in clinical, education, and administration within acute and/or ambulatory settings.
Proven experience working with nursing students, adults, and families.
Demonstrated clinical expertise in a relevant healthcare field.
Proven ability to deliver effective presentations, facilitate group discussions, and adapt teaching methods to diverse cultures and learning styles.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated flexibility in meeting scheduling and program needs.
Knowledge of computer technology.
V. Compensation:
Rate to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
