Disability Services is looking for a dependable TypeWell Transcribing Specialist.
This position is responsible for providing communication access for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in the classroom and various university settings, in compliance with applicable laws, codes, and best practices established by ADA/Section 504.
This position manages processes and is responsible for the oversight of transcribing services.
The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows: * Provide transcriptions of verbal communications in real time using specialized software equipment.
* Listen to class lectures and discussions to record information to be viewed simultaneously by the receiver.
* Voice speakers comments and questions, using TypeWell software.
* Maintain scheduling for transcribing services; ensure that transcribers are scheduled during the student's scheduled class time.
* Process additional requests for transcribing services.
* Ensure that student's appointments are entered into the database system for documentation and data tracking purposes.
* Help troubleshoot issues with equipment, audio, * Assist in the recruitment, retaining, and supervising of TypeWell transcribers, including training and mentoring.
* Assist in coordinating other speech-to-text services, as needed.
* Maintain confidential documentation of service provision and student need, frequent communication with faculty, staff, students, and outside agencies.
Assist with some budgetary processes regarding service provision.
This position must maintain student confidentiality in compliance with FERPA.
* And other office duties as assigned.
This is an in-person position with occasional remote work available.
In collaboration with Disability Services advisors, schedule and provide speech-to-text services in compliance with applicable laws, codes, and best practices established by ADA/Section 504 and the Transcriber Code of Ethics.
Required Qualifications * TypeWell certified.
* Excellent listening and memory skills.
Ability to listen and understand rapidly spoken English and identify essential components or orally presenting information.
* Excellent spelling skills, and proper use of grammar and punctuation.
* Strong typing skills (60+ WPM). * High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications * One year college experience or similar related experience.
* Supervisory experience * 1-2 years experience as a certified transcriber.
