Summary: The Customs Entry Writer is responsible for the timely and accurate filing of customs entries in compliance with all federal regulations. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) procedures, classification under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS), and adherence to all pertinent trade compliance guidelines. The Entry Writer will collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments, clients, and governmental agencies to ensure efficient customs clearance and delivery of goods.
Essential Functions:
Prepare, review, and process import documentation necessary to facilitate customs clearance for air and ocean shipments.
Classify products according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS).
Accurately complete and submit all required Customs documentation within prescribed timeframes.
Communicate with CBP and other Partner Government Agencies (PGA) to resolve any compliance issues, holds, or queries.
Maintain proactive communication providing status updates, addressing inquiries, and ensuring service excellence.
Support the Sales team with initiatives to attract key import accounts
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
Maintain accurate and complete records of all customs transactions in accordance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
Stay current with changes to regulations, best practices, and emerging trends in international trade and customs compliance.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and compliance effectiveness.
Competencies:
Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and procedures
Detailed knowledge of the import entry process and documentation requirements
Proficient in HTS classification
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and commitment to compliance and accuracy
Professional demeanor with ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
Critical analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to use technology tools
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in related coursework preferred
Minimum 2 years of experience in customs brokerage or import operations
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation required
Certification as a Licensed Customs Broker a plus
