JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for testing, calibrating, and repairing electric meters. Responds to consumer inquiries about metering and billing. Monitors power quality of both single and three phase systems. Installs metering for residential, commercial, and industrial consumers. Performs load control equipment installation and maintenance. Performs other job duties as assigned by AMI Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Tests, calibrates, and repairs electric meters in field and shop environments
Tests metering systems, including CTs, PTs and wiring for safety and accuracy
Performs single-phase and three-phase voltage and current checks on metering system
Maintains records of meter tests and prepares reports of meters tested as required
Reads commercial meters and inspects large power sites monthly
Performs substation metering and AMI Tower site inspections and writes reports as necessary
Installs, programs, and maintains metering equipment for residential, commercial and industrial consumers, including CTs, PTs, meters, wiring, metering hardware and AMI equipment
Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots load control equipment
Performs duties of AMI Technician when directed by AMI Manager
Must be able to operate BrightRidge bucket truck and other required equipment
Ability to maintain reliable, predictable, and reasonable attendance
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in continuing education thru meetings, seminars, schools, or training, etc., as determined by AMI Manager or as required by law
Must maintain a valid drivers' license from state of residence
Perform other duties as requested or assigned
Answer telephone during power outages as required
Adhere to BrightRidge safety guidelines and best practices for performing work
Maintain proper care of assigned fleet vehicle and all tools and equipment
Must be available for after-hours work which would include working fair share of all necessary overtime
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must know content of metering courses, principles of customer contact, both in person and over the phone, principles of basic electricity, as well as the billing cycles and principles of billing
Must possess basic computer skills
Must be able to climb ladder
Must be able to learn changing technology
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to occasionally lift and carry a maximum of 40 pounds. Must be able to stand for up to 30 minutes. Position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling, pick/pinch and fine manipulation. Requires constant vision and depth perception. Requires occasional kneeling/squatting and head and neck rotation and bending.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Approximately 50% of this position is performed outside in varying weather conditions. The other 50% is performed indoors inside the meter shop with appropriate lighting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Pass a colorblindness screening
Technical certification in watt-hour metering (usually obtained from a correspondence school and requiring two years to complete) is mandatory
