Database Administrator
Salary: $115,000 - $125,000/year
Job Summary:
The Database Administrator will oversee and ensure the performance, integrity, stability, and security of Azure SQL databases within DoD enterprise business systems. This role involves regular configuration validation, monitoring, and maintenance activities to support both test and production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Performance and Integrity: Ensure database performance, integrity, and stability through regular configuration validation, monitoring, and routine maintenance.
Compliance: Conduct DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) reviews and ensure compliance with established requirements for Azure SQL.
Security: Enforce database security measures, including user access controls, encryption, and vulnerability management, adhering to DoD guidelines.
Optimization: Monitor, tune, and proactively manage resources to optimize database performance.
Backup and Recovery: Ensure all database platforms are properly backed up, with documented and routinely tested restoration procedures.
Audit and Monitoring: Utilize Kusto Query Language (KQL) to review database audit logs in Azure Analytics Workspaces, satisfying Risk Management Framework (RMF) monitoring and audit requirements.
Contingency Planning: Support contingency planning efforts to ensure system availability.
Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with various operational teams to address performance or stability issues within the systems.
Task Management: Manage multiple tasks and priorities with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Relationship Building: Collaborate closely with developers, system administrators, and business users to build strong relationships.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
5+ years in database administration for Azure SQL databases.
3+ years with DoD enterprise application databases in the Microsoft Azure Government cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) environment.
3+ years conducting DoD STIG and RMF compliance reviews in an Azure Government Cloud environment.
3+ years with Microsoft Azure Cloud logging and monitoring tools, including Log Analytics, Azure Monitor, and Kusto Query Language (KQL).
Skills:
High proficiency in SQL tuning, including writing and optimizing T-SQL queries for efficient database operations in Azure SQL environments.
Ability to write highly technical correspondence within professional etiquette standards.
Must satisfy DoD 8140 Foundational Requirements for the Data Administrator (421) - Intermediate work role.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or Software Engineering.
Certifications:
At least one of the following:
CompTIA Security+ - Preferred
CompTIA Cloud+
Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) - GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)
International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC) - Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
Database Certifications:
At least one Microsoft SQL related certification.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) - Preferred
Additional Requirements:
Security Clearance: DoD Secret clearance.
