POSITION SUMMARY: High School Guidance Counselor
Goal:
To guide and counsel individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and career plans, which may include:
Key responsibilities include:
Develop & Coordinate with Administration master schedule and scheduling of all students
Provides personal and social growth counseling which includes individual and group counseling relating to academic success, understanding of self and others, communication skills, decision-making, relationship skills, conflict resolution, and goal setting.
Provides crisis intervention services, e.g. suicide prevention, child abuse, health concerns, substance abuse, and follow-up services as appropriate.
Conducts individual conferences and group meetings with parents to effectively communicate with and involve parents in improving student performance.
Assists in coordination and implementation of school testing SAT, PSAT, WIDA, DESSA, and MAP Testing
Participates in and assists with the intervention/crisis team process
Planning and/or promoting programs that enhance the academic, social, or emotional growth of students, e.g., Career Fair, Honor Roll Assembly, Awards Ceremony & Senior Events, Graduation, opportunities for student enrichment and/or remediation, scholarship opportunities, and parent informational programs such Parent Camp.
Meeting with seniors once each semester and mailing updates on their graduation status to their parents; Helping students develop post-secondary educational plans in accordance with their interests, abilities, and career plans; Assisting students with the completion of college admissions applications;
Assisting the principal in the preparation of diploma lists and identification of honor graduates in preparation for the Senior Honors Program and Graduation Minimum Qualifications:
Must hold an Active State of Delaware License and Elementary or K-12 School Counselor Certification.
Minimum of three years of successful professional experience at the high school level
Master's degree from an accredited college/university.
Have the ability to cooperate with staff, parents/guardians, administration, and community resource people.
Proven ability to develop rapport with students.
Experience analyzing data to identify concerns and develop solutions.
Ability to empathize and understand the concerns of all students in a diverse, urban setting.
Possess teaching skills to administer developmental guidance curriculum; organizational skills; computer literacy; and knowledge of the developmental guidance philosophy. License/Certification:
K-12 School Counselor Certification. (Required) Compensation:
Great Oaks provides a competitive compensation and benefits package; exact compensation will vary based on experience and education.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,570.00 per year
