Position Summary Plan, assign, inspect and coordinate the maintenance and repair of transit automobiles, buses and heavy equipment; coordinate the daily maintenance and repair activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public and ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Education and experience directly related to the requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business; and Five (5) years of automotive mechanical repair experience; and To include one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.

Fleet maintenance and repair experience preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within 90 days from date of hire.

Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B with a Passenger (P) endorsement within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of Air Conditioning certifications within 90 days from date of hire.

Possession of a valid New Mexico Compressed Natural Gas license within 90 days from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge * Methods, equipment and materials used in the overhaul, repair and maintenance of automobiles, buses and heavy equipment * Operations, services and activities of a mechanical maintenance program * Principles of lead supervision and training * Methods and techniques of mechanical maintenance and repair work * Operational characteristics of mechanical repair equipment and tools including testing equipment, lathes and a variety of automotive hand and power tools * Occupational hazards and standard safety practices * Pertinent Federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations Preferred Skills & Abilities * Supervise, organize and review the work of lower level staff * Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff * Coordinate various operations and maintenance activities * Determine methods and materials needed for repair and installation of automotive parts * Interpret and explain City policies and procedures * Prepare clear and concise reports and utilize basic computer programs relevant to assigned area * Communicate clearly and concisely * Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation * Work independently in the absence of supervision * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public
