Mechanical / Piping Engineering Section Chief
LOCATION: Anchorage, AK
FSLA: Exempt
SUMMARY:
The Mechanical/Piping Engineering Section Chief is responsible for the supervision and direction of a team of 20-40 engineers and designers. Responsibilities also include providing qualified staff members, technological expertise and tools, procedures, and appropriate technical stewardship to deliver projects and services.
Responsibilities:
Represent and embody Company Core Values and Code of Conduct to staff, clients, and the community.
Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Mechanical/Piping section.
Collaboration and partnership with Manager of Engineering, other Engineering Department leadership and staff, Senior Management, and management of other departments and units, in order to identify and meet Company objectives.
Compose, review, and recommend policies, procedures, and practices as required to meet Engineering Department objectives.
Development and stewardship of continuous improvement initiatives.
Steward technical integrity and quality of deliverables.
Support and maintain training, development, and mentoring of staff.
Provide guidance and direction for quality reviews by Responsible Members.
Periodic review and update of discipline engineering procedures in coordination with the Manager of Engineering and Professional Engineer(s) responsible for the practice of discipline specific engineering by Company.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:
Organization and management of the engineering discipline within the Engineering Department.
Identification and development of engineering chief leadership succession and delegation of responsibilities.
Identification, resolution, and elevation as appropriate of issues to Manager of Engineering.
Assurance of discipline compliance with approved procedures and policies.
Manage staffing levels as appropriate to support execution of work. Assure discipline staffing information is updated in staffing plan.
Recommend employment hiring/disciplinary actions for approval by Manager of Engineering.
Periodic review and recommendation of staff compensation adjustments for endorsement by Manager of Engineering and approval by Senior Management.
Timesheet review and approval, ensuring all overtime worked is pre-approved.

QUALIFICATIONS
An accredited B.S. or higher degree in a relevant engineering discipline, and at least ten years of engineering experience delivering engineering projects using systems similar to Company.
At least three years of experience as a discipline lead or project engineer supervising relevant staff (document controllers, engineers, technical specialists or scientists, designers, or similar) in a consulting engineering environment.
PREFERRED
A current Alaska Professional Engineer license
At least 15 years of experience related to the industries Company supports.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
