Summary: The Cost Accountant has responsibility for determining and implementing cost accounting procedures and methods throughout the manufacturing locations including examining and reviewing unusual cost records and ensuring cost data is allocated correctly. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and is salary, exempt.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform the daily Costing function for all manufacturing locations, including: Portland, Indiana; Clayton, Ohio.
Responsible for performing month-end close activities related to Cost Accounting.
Ensure validity and accuracy of manufacturing costs through variance analysis, internal audit, and coordination with the Accounting team, Purchasing, Scheduling, Quality and Production.
Oversight and ownership of the Plant P&L and trial balance including preparation and review of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, adjusting journal entries and expense variance analysis.
Complete and continuously refine a daily process to review costing and production activities performed at the plants' within the Epicor/Kinetic ERP system:
Oversee monitoring and correction of inventory and work in process (WIP):
Ensure materials are properly picked.
Ensure there are no parts with negative quantity on hand.
Ensure labor entries are proper.
Monitor inspection and defective material reporting.
Ensure proper completion of jobs (receipt to inventory or shipment to customer).
Execute job closing after validation of costs and quantities.
Ensure the validity of the average cost for all inventory on hand.
Review plant labor entries for reasonableness and accuracy.
Monitor and report on average cost trends
Perform employee maintenance in ERP system
Manage Cycle Counting and Physical Count programs at two locations. Prepare written reports and analysis of the results of count programs.
Perform periodic analysis of scrap and inventory slow moving/obsolescence; report to Management the results and findings of the analysis.
Oversee customer returns and cases and report on the financial impact of any open warranty claims.
Follow-up on unvouchered debit memos from suppliers related to discrepant material and/or returns.
Prepare Warranty analysis for determining warranty accrual and expense quarterly entries.
Oversee Engineering in the creation of Product Development cost tracking.
Create analyses for Operations and Cost Accounting items, as needed.
Provide back-up and support to other accounting functions including AR, AP, Credit & Collections, Tax, and General Ledger Accounting, as appropriate.
Assist in special projects as necessary and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master's degree in Accounting; CPA and/or CMA license and public accounting experience highly desired.
2-5 years experience with similar accounting responsibilities. Experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
Advanced proficiency with MS-Office applications and advanced excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, etc.) is essential.
GSuite proficiency including use of google sheets and Gmail is a plus.
Familiarity with Kinetic (Epicor) or similar fully integrated manufacturing ERP system is preferred.
Exceptional organizational abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both internal and external to the organization.
Ability to work independently and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
Willing and able to travel regionally and out of state to visit plant locations in Indiana and Ohio up to 10% of the time.
